I cant believe they made a smaller ipod considering its already the best in the world and is the size of a credit card

but the wonder of the ipod is you can stash ALL your CDs on it. :)

thats what I plan to do when I buy one...if I ever can afford one.

The wonder of having a house is you can store all your cd's in it too and transfer the cd's youd like to listen to onto an mp3 player when you leave your house.

It's kinda stupid because it's not that much cheaper ($50 less I think), but has much less space available.

Doesn't make sense to me.

Yea...but for me, if I'm going to spend a bunch of cash on an MP3 player...

200$ = 128 MB space
300$ = 40,000 MB of space

no brainer there.

I think I'll but one (not the mini) eventually.

That is, if they come out with a 100 GB version.

yeah, when the next version comes out (probly 60 gig) the prices will come down and ill spring for a 40 gigger. I think a nice alternative to the Ipod it is I think called the Nomad MuVo NX or something, the new dell and Zen NX are just rip offs of the Ipod, so im not going to buy one in that style unless it is infact an ipod. This reply makes no sense. im sorry.

Yeah I have a previous-generation 128MB MuVo.

When I finally buy a HD-based MP3 player, I want to make sure it holds my whole MP3 collection (with room to grow).

I don't need an i-Pod...

I've recently got a Sony Net-MD. Just your basic mini disc player, but it comes with software to transfer songs and edit your mini discs as quick as a MP3 player would via USB. The software also compresses the music to LP4 so an 80 minute mini-disc will actually hold nearly 5 and a half hours of music. More than enough for me.

yeah but your compression rates suck and i guarantee it's not as fast as firewire. can your net md write an album in 10 seconds? plus it can act as a backup hardrive for your pc.

On a negative note i heard on the news that they just found out iPods only have an 18month battery life which is rubbish as I have the original 20gig one which is 15months old.

Maybe not, but I honestly do not ever need 20gb of music.

I agree.
For what a **** does anyone needs 40gb of mp3?
It's like what 1 000 000 hours of music ?
Someday the iPods will have will be able to store so much music you'll hv listen to it until your death...

I heard Ipods have some sort of battery for the motherboard or something that only lasts so long, and the replacement is $250.

Not exactly sure....unless maybe it's the battery to run the whole system.

Still..

Also, can you store ANYTHING on an Ipod? Or just music?

I'm buying a Creative zen Xtra 30 gigs better sound US$150 less than equivalent ipod

also available with 40 and 60 gigs

:afro:

All my music adds up to 6 gig and most of it i never listen to. I probably have a couple fo thousand songs and my play list is only 358 songs long.

I would like an mp3 player to hold all that, but money is an issue. I did buy an mp3 player int he US for $70, and that was a bargain. On its own, you can have about 20 songs, but you can buy memory cards for it. The biggest i have at the moment is only 128mb and that numps up the capacity to around 50 songs. Hopefully i cna get my hands on a bigger card and double my memory again. For now though, i can just switch between cards like i woudl with a tape, CD or mini disc. Pluse they have little cases that make them harder to lose. If i wanted, i could buy about 5 big cards and more music than i could ever want to listen to on them.
Since it doesnt use a HD, the mp3 player itself is smaller than the smallest mini disc. Its not too small though, its just big enough to be hard to lose, and small enough to not bulge in your pocket.

Yeah, the only songs ive got at a high quality are the ones i really like listening too often.

A 40GB player can hold over 270 hours (about 4000 songs) at 320Kbps. Who needs that much music at their finger tips 24/7? Even a 20GB mp3 player is a bit excessive if you ask me.

It's even worse if you consider that an iPod has horrible battery life. My little flash mp3 player can go for over 24 hours on one rechargeable AA battery... and the next generation of that player is supposed to increase the battery life by over 100%. "but that's a flash mp3 player... the iPod has great battery life for a hard drive mp3 player", you say? Nope. An iHP-120 is the same price as a 20GB iPod... but its battery lasts twice as long. Another HD player with the same amount of storage (I forgot which one) has 250% of the battery life of an iPod. What do you get in return for sacrificing that precious battery life? Extra features? Better sound? No, and no. In fact, those same two players have better features and sound... and they are the same price as (or less than) "comparable" (only in storage) iPods.

... but that's just my opinion.
