Mirror's Edge 2

gahhh i still need to finish the 1st one which is sitting in my pile of shame games i haven't finished/started

news to me
i enjoyed the 1st
all they need to do is make it longer and give the characters/plot more appeal

I think the plot was fine, they can and probably will make it better though. And yea a bit more variety in the gameplay is also welcome.

I thought it was disappointing but I liked it nonetheless

I liked it, I just kept getting stuck. That first game was so bloody hard in places.

I only had to reference a walkthrough once. I felt proud until I talked to 2 of my friends about the game and they said they never had to use a walkthrough.

Anyway, I really liked the game, for a lot of reasons. The story/cutscenes were probably the weakest part.

Also I wish it had more weapons/better combat. I remember seeing an MP7 in concept art and I was all excited.

And less linear levels.

Yeah, this is really old news, it was announced even before the originals release, that if the original did decently in retail, it would become a trilogy.

Its new news to me Gargantou, you can't think everybody knows bout this.

I seen ME up in CeX for a fiver might get it along with lost the video game, which is also a fiver.

Ok G, well at least you know when it's being worked on, they possibly could've dropped it if the sales weren't good enough. Consider it an update.

The first one was a neat concept, but one that nonetheless held no interest for me. I wonder what will change with the 2nd....

I enjoyed the mechanics, but it got a bit frustrating when you had to start dealing with the armed guards more and more, esp when your trying to play it from a no kill perceptive. I've yet to finish it tbh, but its on my to do list.

Hopefully they'll a bit more to the second game. I'd of quite liked it if it was as much about going up from street level as it was about going across roofs. I was kind of excited on one of the missions to get to the ground as I wanted to see the City, only to find that I was the target of a tonne of law enforcement straight away.

I still haven't beaten the first one, it just sits here.. I thought it got really gay and annoying when the guys start chasing you across the roofs.. At first I thought it was only a level, but no that's the rest of the game..

I think the main problem with Mirror's Edge was that you learned a skillset in the tutorial, and you never needed to learn a single new move or technique to finish the game. There was no new or interesting developements and only one or two unique fights.

Also, the indoors levels sucked compared to freerunning outside.

Then don't use it. I wouldn't use it on my first playthrough either. But it would be cool to play around with later. Why not is the question; it can't be that hard to implement.

It can't be that hard no, but are the devs obliged to add it? Hell no, IMO they should follow their own vision of what they want the game to be, they shouldn't make a "perfect third-person mode" just because a few fans want it.

Do you also ask why Valve is not implementing fully third-person modes in their games?

Ok I didn't say anything about "perfect" just finished, unlike the one in the current game.

Normal FPSs are completely different. Are you even trying to make a good argument? Mirror's Edge is cool to see in third person because your character is doing a lot of sweet moves that would be neat to see in third person. I remember thinking how cool the girl in the tutorial looked when she was showing me the moves.

What's funny is that there are a lot of games that do have third person view when it's almost completely unnecessary. Mirror's Edge stands a lot to benefit due to the game style relying heavily on the acrobatics and maneuvers of your character, which are inarguably neat to watch from third person.

If it makes you that upset that people might use it and ruin the immersion of the game or something, then just have it as an unlock after you beat the game or something.

It's done too much though, there are hundreds of third person games where you do acrobatics and crazy things, the reason Mirrors Edge is cool is because you get to do all that in first person, that's pretty much the draw to it.

Explain to me how adding a third person option interferes with

"you get to do all that in first person"

That's my main confusion with you guys who are opposing this idea.

Oh I didn't know you meant add the option to switch between them in, I just read that post, and assumed you thought the game would be better in third person.

Yea an option would be ok. I think it would make it easier though.

I also enjoyed this game (and didn't have to use a guide, Vegeta). I noticed that the game mostly used free running for puzzles rather than combat, which as I love puzzle games, was certainly not a bad thing. But still, it will be interesting to see how Splash Damage can implement free running into combat in Brink.

The fact they also have to design the game to be playable from a third-person perspective will obviously take time from toher stuff.

Not to mention making animations for said third-person perspective mode.

Not too necessary.

Not to mention making animations for said third-person perspective mode.

Uh, they already did it in the first game. They have to even without third person mode. Just because the camera is first person doesn't mean you never see yourself. Ever heard of reflections?

My biggest complaint about the game was how the "flow" of running and going fast would constantly be stopped by having to look for where to go next.

Jesus, let the third-person thing go... it's an awful idea and completely against the spirit of the game.

They can change the view point simply by changing a value. You can go from 1st to third person easily. There could be animations that may be missing, depending on whether they made animations for every action. Since the player character was shown in first person, they may have skipped making animated head movement, etc.

Fine tuning the game to be played in third person and camera control is another matter.

i had no problem sticking to a no kill mantra through my second run through the game. My first one I killed when I had a gun available, but my second run through I decided I was going to try and go without killing 1 guard. It was freaking hard at parts (the parking garage anyone) but all i had to do was poke my head out somewhere to get their attention and wait until two or even one guard broke off from the group then take one out and go run away hiding again to do it all over again
