Dual monitors is sweet for a nice panoramic view but It sucks though because the cross hair is right in the middle of the screen so it's nearly impossible to aim right I need a nice big widescreen TV to use or at least another samsung LCD so the gap isn't as wide.

I went back to the original 1280X1024 on one monitor and it's killing me. It makes me think that I'm only seeing half what I should be seeing. :frown:

Also notice how much better the color quality and clairity on the syncmaster 172X is as opposed to the old dell trinitron.

I would never be able to play like that. Anyway n1.

I run dual monitors but I only play on one, so I can do work on the other. I play in windowed mode fit to my desktop resolution so i can freely move my mouse between apps, but I'd love to try that.

Can I do the same thing? I'm using a 9800pro on 2 viewsonic 21" crt's, one with the crt plug and on in the lcd plug using the adapter. Or do you have 2 video cards?

you can have 2 monitors on the 1 card as you said, using the 2 connections on the back.

Yes, I run dual monitors, but how do you get the game to display on both?

If I stretch the window across to the second monitor it is just black.
I was hoping that maybe HL2 supported this somehow.

omg.. i tried to do this for awhile? how did u do that?

change the aspect ratio to widescreen in the video options.

i'm using 1 card. 6800gt using Nview.

yeah the dell monitor is a POS. if I had $450 sitting around i'd have another flat screen.

I couldn't do that...
#1: My two monitors are 19 inch and 15 inch
#2: I couldn't stand that 3 inch gap in the middle of my view.

A few weeks ago I've read a review of a triplesight monitor. I don't remember its name but it's just like this doublesight monitor but with 3 lcd displays of course. So you don't have to bother about the crosshair because it's nice in the center of the middle display. But I think you would need a damn good system to play HL2 max detail on 3 displays :p

Dual monitors rock for normal usage, but are basically useless for gaming. I hate having to use my single monitor system at work. It just feels so restrictive. I'll never go back to a single monitor at home.

Yeah or for 8500$ you can travel first class to Black Mesa...

Dual monitors and more than that are ugly. The day they make super sized monitors with no noticable gap of ugly terrain between them(the plastic casings etc), is the day i'll be interested. I can't stand going from monitor... to hard plastic, to monitor, to hard plastic, to monitor. It's much better to just be one continuous viewing field for me.

I assume you mean playing a game using both monitors; because I can't imagine using only one monitor ever again, WoW/HL2 on one screen and web browser - messenger on the other... oh ya and work stuff too (if I feel motivated)

i dont understand how u can use the mouse in the other screen with web browser, if u r playing a game with it on the other screen....

How well does that work?

I only have one monitor right now, which is a 17", (should the comma go inside or outside the quote in that case?) but it's getting a little blurry due to years of use, so my dad said I can/should get a new one for Christmas. I would get a 19" and then use the 17" as my second.

I'd love to play HL2 (or any game really) on my 19", then do whatever on my 17"

Does it slow down your computer a lot?

I have an Athlon 2800+ with 512 MB PC-3200 DDR Ram.

Maybe I could use some more ram.

That's exactly how I started a couple years back, I had a 19" viewsonic and a 17" dell. I immediately fell in love and when I could I bought two 21" viewsonics specifically because I enjoyed the freedom so much.

If you can hook up 2 monitors even to test it;set your desktop to stretch across both monitors (It's in the options in the catalyst thingy for me, but I think you can right click your desktop and select properties to find it) should be an option to show the same thing on both monitors and to extend your desktop.

Now, just treat the 2 desktops as one, click and drag anything you want over there.

On my game monitor I run 1280x1064 and on my apps monitor I run 1152x864 (easier on the eyes for me when reading)

performance?

Well, that would depend on your rig I suppose, I don't have a super computer and I never feel I suffer.

p4 2.8c on a neo2 865PE,twin corsairs 512mb @800mhz, audigy2 5.1, 9800pro 128mb

Here's what a screeny looks like, mind you theres no black at the bottom of the right monitor, it's just the screenshot had to take into account the different resolutions.

I've never heard someone say they hate dual monitors, get another monitor!

They don't add much too the fps genre but with RTS games it's very cool. Homeworld 2 supports multiple monitors so you can use one to zoom in on the action and the other to keep a good overview on the whole thing.

So I notice you can play HL2 in full screen though on your main monitor, and still use the secondary monitor as random.

Man that would be awesome..I think I will get a new 19" for Christmas, and possibly pick up some more ram.

Playing HL2/CS: Source (or even WoW, if I get it) on one monitor and forum browsing on the other would be so, SO awesome...

irt #1

when i clicked on this thread i expected to see pics or mom on those screenz

JUST KIDDING HAPPY POSTTHANKSGIVING EVERYONE?

i use a dual mon set up as well, but because of that cross hair issue, i only have the game run on one mon, my IRC and Vent/ team speak on the other. its nice to keep track of whats going on when your playing.

if you are going to use a dual mon set up like that, with the game spread out, best to use 2 simlular mons in size and spec. here is my system FYI. unfortunately i dont have 2 of the same mons, i use a 19" sony E400 trinitron as my main, and a POS Dell 17" as my secondary.

MY comp set up with DUAL mons

Sir, you are preaching to the Choir.
When the new Nvidia 6800 came out and i found out it had bad dual mon support, i almost lost my mind. Thank god they fixed that within the drivers. i could NEVER have a system with only ONE monitor.

omfg people i have a laptop and i can do it too. just get a dual connector and your set

I would prefer a three monitor set up. They would have to be lcd because the power consumption of three 21in crts would be insane. They make some with a 1cm gap, which is quite comfortable, and with three, there is no gap over your cross hairs.

These are insane setups. But the spaces between the monitors are BUTT UGLY.

ok, I'm confused, lets say you are playing hl2 on a dual monitor, one monitor is hl2 and the other is other apps. Lets say you quickly want to turn around 180 degrees and you flick the mouse quickly over. How does your computer differentiate whether you want to do this or infact go to your second monitor.

I have used dual mons for work apps but not for gaming.

BTW the triple mon setup in the link above is sick, really sick. What an unfair advantage you would get when playing CS:S

I had mine set up so I had to press a button on my mouse to "leave" the game window (lots of extra clickies)

Wouldn't it just be cheaper to get a widescreen LCD? Then you have no annoying gap.

Yeah the ulitmate solution (as far as cheapness goes) is just to get a bigger screen that has a natural widescreen resolution.

I wouldn't mind seeing this game on one of those apple displays!

The guy with the Parhilia card looked sweet but I thought the performance on those cards were bad?
