Is it possible that there ever could be mmorpg's that don't have a monthly fee? That's the only thing that bothers me. I feel like I NEED to play it to get my moneys worth instead of just doing what I feel like.

Guild Wars doesn't have a monthly fee, although i dont think it's out yet. Monthly fee's are really needed for financing the games and servers. Its a bummer yes, but if you play the game enough and more importantly enjoy it, i think the price is usually worth it.

The fees really aren't much when you think about it - the same price as 1 pint a week. Even if you only play for an hour or two a week you're getting great value for money.

mmorpgs charge because the costs are much higher then a server for something like cs lol

I know about Guild Wars and have been beta testing it. But do you think technology could ever be good enough to cut down on the server prices or something?

Mostly Incorrect. When you go on cs, all those servers..or well 99.9% of them anyway are not valve hosted. They are player hosted. People host them.
With a MMORPG, the companies have to buy much better servers, supply more money for the bandwidth, and there payin for all of it. Then they have to pay people to fix the hardware. Pap people to test the patchs. Pay people to think of ideas, pay people to program new things in, pay people to model new things in, pay people to fix bugs on the fly. If the netcode is horrible then bandwidth costs also rise.

Guild Wars has a A++ Netcode. Thats from a 56ker.

Technology...err..it isn't about the server totally. It's also about how many people they have to pay.
Maybe if we had a new program language or a very VERY VERY good prediction method that could massively cut down on the netcode thus massively decreasing the data sent, thus decreasing bandwidth, thus decreasing price.

Yeah but the price doesn't need to be more then 3 dollars per person, 15,- is just rediculus. I mean hl2 probably cost more than WoW, and much more time has been spent on it than on wow, so why should i spend 12,- per month extra on wow, if gw can be free, than so can others or atleast have a lower price. It's only because you people put up with it that they charge you that much.

I played it a little, I would go with guild wars any day obviously. But great for a fully free game.

I couldn't really use sound though, as my version had a sound bug. Probably fixed, I should run the auto updater again.

if gw can be free
Remember GW uses quite better technology, and to the fact that they will be releasing expansions every 6 months.
That does not mean they wont be updateing the world alot though.

They can create super new huge insane landscapes in 6 months...they redid most of the landscapes from E3, to October?, to January.

ROSE online that korean free mmorpg that several members of this forum like, has kiddy graphics but is fun :D
