Mobo/power supply compatability?

I need some of you super smart people to help me out. Me and a friend are building him a computer. I'm the one who knows more about computers, so I'm sort of just helping him. I picked out all the parts and we put it together. And now we get to our problem.

The PC turns on....all the pretty led lights, all the fans, cd drive (second dvd drive dosn't come on though ) I can here the HD spin up, everything just goes like it should.

Problem. No signal going to monitor(thats the small problem) As pc turns on, it goes for about 10 seconds, then you can hear that restart "click" sound and it revs up again, and it just continues on and on like this.

I put in the thing to hear the system beeps. I get a continuous string of short beeps. In the manual it says this is a Power Error.

Now, can anyone tell me if there is any way a power supply could not be compatable with a Mobo?

I just don't know enough to have any idea what to do at this point. We can rule out a bad power supply, because we had a problem part way through instalation that just turned out to be the need for riser screws under the mobo.

So what do you think?

try calling tech support they would prob. know more about the motherboard then we do. possibly something was shorted

Did you install the motherboard without the risers and then tunr it on?

Yeah, do you think something could have shorted?

I was afrade something like that happend, but I thought I would be getting a different error message.

What should I check to see if the board burnt out some where?

Usually when it does that there are 3 things that generally could be wrong.

Assuming you have taken all extra peices out except the mobo, PSU, vid card, processor. Yes take out RAM, CD drive and HD.

Once you have done that and it still does not work it could be a bad processor, mobo or PSU. Chances are however that you plugged the 21 pin connector into the mobo but it most likely also needs the 4 pin connector for the processor. If you have tried that then your mobo/processor is most likely bad. Try to replace them with known good parts if you can to see if it works then just to rule that part out.

Um, yeah, I'd check the board itself. Something might have gone wrong. If it was running fine and then suddenly went off, yeah, it's a good possibility.

Well, the board hasn't suddenly just gone off. It does turn on, it just keeps restarting and gives me a Power Error.

If it was something like the processor wouldn't I be getting a processor error message? The whole "power error" message is a bit vauige.

Nah...when your comp lights turn on but it just sits there it generalls means those 3 things. A bad processor can cause it from not booting. Try removing it to see if there is any change. I have had mobos boot up without a processor and some don't.

Also make sure you have 2 power cords plugged into your mobo...if not then fix that. After that your mobo is most likely fried. I have seen it happen before and it is not fun. However try to swap parts out to rule all other possibilities out to make sure the mobo is actually bad. Nothing is worse than buying a replacement part only to find out the original was fine. If you still have a warranty go ahead and swap it for a new one...channces are 2 mobos in a row won't be bad and you can then rule that part out.

I've always notice it only happen with me when I buy an independent PSU to the mobo, every case with an onboard fan as standard, works!

Ok well... then I'm not sure how I'm gonna go about this. Even if its the Processor or the Mobo....I don't have any extra parts around to test them with.
But do you think that turning on a mobo wile it is grounded like I did could damage it? Because I turned it on and off a whole bunch of times...

Now I know better......riser screws are IMPORTANT!!!!!


(but they seriously didn't even mention them in the instilation manuel, and I'm a first timer at this ;( )

Might sound silly, but are you sure everything's plugged into the right place? On my first PCIe mobo I got a 12v connector confused with the PCIe power and wondered why it didn't boot :|

Nope, everything is pluged in right. I made sure of that over and over. The ATX 24 pin is in the board right. The 4 pin is in the board right. And the pc is pluged straight into the wall, not on a power strip.

my motherboard boots without a proccesor but goes off after 20sec also would something show up on the monitor if there was no proccesor installed? im using a pci 5700le on a pci-e board cant afford pci-e card right now

I think most mobos doI have seen them boot up and give a no or bad cpu error message. On mine it wouldn't boot up unless I had the CPU power cord in...not sure if I tried it without the CPU or not but I know some school computers wouldn't boot without the CPU in, they would just turn on and sit there.
