we've started designing a mod for half-life 2. however, we have half life 1 and we desperatly need the hl2 code and the new editor. Is there anyone who an help?

The HL2 code won't be released until it's ready which won't be until HL2 is released/nearly complete. That probably won't be until either December or April.

And no matter what anyone suggests to you, I really wouldn't recommend the stolen files - after all, Valve knows about them and is probably reworking the source code as we speak and it wouldn't do your mod much credability to use them if you were found out which is likely.

My suggestion is that you wait. There are a lot of people out there, and sure there's probably a big race to see who's going to be the first mod out, but rest assured, the first one won't be the best remembered.

I mean, who remembers the first mod for HL? Was it any good? My guess is no. The ones that will stick out could be anywhere within the "mod period". One of the most sucessful was CS - right near the beginning. The next was DOD right in the middle. The next was NS right near the end. So at the end of the day, wherever your mod is, beginning, middle or end as long as it's good and original and has that "feel" about it people will play and love it. And maybe even eventually, pay money for it.

yes i know, but I also read that at the end of august, some mod makers recieved the code for making hl2 mods. are'nt they going to have a problem?

P.S.: our mod is not for being the first with a hl2 mod, we just want a nice mod, I'm working on the story, we're making textures, and we're experimentating with hl1, but If we make the mod for hl1, we will have to do a lot of work for transferring it to hl2 and we will miss a big deal of cool things!

you could wait like everyone else. Others are making do and don't appear to be struggling right now, lots of concept work, planning, early modeling, and so on that can be done before you need to touch the engine. And you can still test a heck of a lot in HL1 if you need to
