Is anyone know of a group useing the Doom3 engine to make Doom3?

Im not kidding i really am being serious. Im not trying to agitate people im just trying to get my point across on this matter.

The game whyll haveing VERY few bugs also had very few other things...

As most of us on this fourm have now played atleast through about 2 hrs of the game, has anyone else noticed something? Doesnt it seem that the action and the events that make you go wow kinda seem only to be in the first 90 minutes and then in the hell/final boss area?

If all of the 20hrs of doom3 had been like the begining and the end it would have been awsome. I still did like the game, im just hopeing that half-life 2 doesnt fall pray to the same things we are commenting about on doom3.

Before i go into detail my viwes on the game you will see that their are a few other people that do seem to think the same way as i have. If you read the gamespot reviwe or the planet doom fourms now that the newness of the game has worn off, you can now see it for what it really was....

A almost flashy engine that whyll being a decent size game really lacked the immersion needed for replay. To start off with the single player problems I will list them in colums.
1: We know the flashlight was ment to try to make the game scaryer but all its really doing after the wow effect wares off is a pain in the rear. I would say you have the flashlight out damn near 50% of the game. Why they didnt keep it as a option or something to just have a head lamp or NV goggles or SOMETHING ill never know.

2: Charecters and things that are cool seem to totaly die out in the middle of the game. Its almost as if they just didnt have the time to keep the game going but had made these levels in advanced and couldnt think of ways to put other things in.

3: Lack of monsters.... I wont go indept on this but this was one big thing that i didnt like. I dont know how many Zombies and IMPS i killed in this game as they where 75% of what you killed. The soldjers had really high accuracy and where dumb as a box of rocks.

4: I dont know what was going through their heads when they didnt optimize the settings.... Why the value was set to 20 or 32 on peoples PC's instead of 256 is puzzleing the shit outa everyone considering the ammount of frames gained by this. Also haveing the game all packed up like it is takes a longer time to load.

5: I know the game didnt focus on multiplayer but with the way they released it it utteraly sucks. I know that multiplayer was a after thought for them and it was supremely evident in the game. How they think people will make modifications to the game when it only supports 4 people. "yes their are servers with higher but it sucks.. lag from hell and the maps no where near support the players on it.

6: Id keep going on and on cus quite frankly their is a ton of things to be upset about. I know some of you feel as if this game was the best thing ever to hit the shelvs and you are entighteld to that opinion. Whyll i think the game was ok it definatly was not what i was expecting. Multiplayer is the only thing that keeps people playing games and that is why HL2 is makeing that a major portion of their game "css" "working with 7coop".... Some people are wondering why the game changed so much from the alpha and why somethings like "good physics" arent in the game. As we can see halflife2 useing physics for damn near everything it seems doom left them as a so-so idea to the game.

Im not meaning to downplay ID's release of the game... Their is just alot of reasons why someone would probably rather make a mod for HL2 instead of Doom3.

Please dont be mad at me and if you have a comment on something i said please let me know and i will get back to you on here as soon as i can. I tryed to be as far as i could.. like i said i do like the game... I like someother people where just expecting more than what we got... I also think that is why valve keeps delaying.... They dont want to have the same "issues" that doom is curently haveing.

(No flames please: Looking for other opinions)

I think it'd be awesome if someone made a Doom 3 mod in the source engine. :)

This has been proven time and time again to not increase FPS. It will occasionally take away "stutter" when entering new areas but it doesn't increase your average FPS. There are very few things that can do that short of upgrading your system.

PS: Judging from the title of your thread I thought this was going to be somewhat interesting. Instead you just started a new thread to gripe about the game. Lame.

My radeon actually got a nice boost from this and the new ati drivers :) ... I really wasent trying to gripe all to much. I was just really expecting this game to be the best singleplayer i had ever played. For some reason flashy graphics are only that without good gameplay.

I agree about the flashlight, hell, if I was in my character's position I'd tape it onto my arm or something. It never seems to run outa batteries :P

Don't worry, Hl2 is not the same, in HL2 you have: A [Real]story, better gameplay, you actually use the physics, more puzzle and you will not finish it in 20 hours.

This is one kick ass review, finnaly some honesty, thanks man, It's tre that it has been overhyped, and like Gabe said, "HL2 will make people forget Doom 3"

How do you know that? Gabe has repeatedly said that it is about the same length as HL1. Personally, I can beat HL1 in under 20 hours.

Gabe seriously said that? I was quite sure he refrained from all comparing of his game to another. :/

I dont want this to turn into a hl2 VRS doom3 war. Doom3 like half-life2 is being made for the mod developers as we know thats what really makes your game worth a darn. Your game might be fun and the multiplayer great but if their isnt something new to do then it dies out.

I wasent really meaning to rag on Doom3 as much as i did. I was just really upset that i dont see any replayability in it and that most of the mods that people are makeing are to add a flashlight all the time "it was needed". After i beat the game i decided i wanted to play it again on the hardest mode. When i went through the secound time i found what most people relize at the end of the game. That is that- It was a good game but was like a sequal with another movie comeing. They dont give all the information becuase the next one will awnser unawnserd questions and fill in the gaps.

I dont forsee people makeing alot of multiplayer mods for doom3 as 4 players can only do so much.

Nope. :) It gave my fps a healthy kick in the arse. I don't know the exact numbers, but it was definately noticeable. Very smooth.

Don't be silly. The cachemegs size doesn't help everybody and for some of us it renders our computers virtually unusable until it reboots. 32MBs is a very standard value and if you could find the setting it other games I bet you it would be similar.

They packed the game up so it wouldn't take up 7 CDs. Duh...

There are indeed so many thing's that could have been better, but from a smale game developing company that makes pretty simple shooters like "id software" I can't really blaim them. I am glad they used DOOM³ as a sort of test to get mutch more confident in the story aspect in games by learning from their mistakes and fan feedback.

Their next game will be great as they will be starting a new game fransize to add to their titles

Link to Gabe saying that please!!!!

I have to disagree with Mayro, and that fact that doom3 was overhyped. Plus Id is very clever in making this game run well on old machines and just because they forgot one or two things doesnt mean that this game isnt optimized, i mean even people with g4 mx cards can run this game and have it look nice
