A group of developers from the Black Mesa mod have taken the time to talk to the people over at ModDB. If you are interested in the mod, then it is well worth setting aside some time to listen to this developer banter.

Very long and interesting preview.

Listening to it right now.. i have no life so this is actually an awesome bordom killer.. helps I've been waiting for this to come out since i got half life 2 in 05

So far so good and I'm an 1/8" in. They talk about what they changed and what they added. They essentially kept everything from HL but some areas they improved upon. Like that scene with a security guard with a scientist and they are at the bottom at the stairs. You go up and turrets pop-up or something. Well they probably changed that because they were just standing around for no reason. They basically are making HL more epic from the sound of it. *Let me put it to you this way. If you caught 2 BM:S dev's and just sat down with them, this is what it would sound like. The interviewer is asking great Q's or anything that you have always wanted to know about for the mod.

The voice actor is incredibly funny. Check some of his soundbites around halfway the interview.

So, I went to their site.

alot of hits after that new trailer and talk :)

Is there another link? I tried to go back to an earlier part to hear something again and the PIECE OF SHIT restarts the whole thing and wont let me go to any part of the track, just restarts every time I try. I was 50 ****ing minutes in.

Well for the gist, I'm afraid it's a little difficult. It's a 1 hour soundbite filled with tiny references to our favorite game. I was able to listen through all of it because it was refreshing, funny and personal. They talk about what it's like to be a part of such a big mod, they talk about the little details that they consider important but that most often are an afterthought with other projects. They talk about how they met each other and discuss the aspects of the HL games they like the most.

I only kept listening because it felt new and innovative and because it really felt like a behind the scene. Goes to show (at least to me) that listening to radio for more than quick soundbites, music and ads is still feasible in the 21st century. The interviewers (even though slightly amateurish) still manage to make it interesting and give an honest shot at pulling the worms out of the devs noses. The voice over guy and the writer both have an excellent dynamic for this interview which makes it funny and un-monotone. It's a little weird or even awkward at times and I laughed out loud several times.

Probably worth your time, if only to remind you that audio-only interviews can still be cool.

cliffs:

- talked about what separates BM:S and HL1 (enhancing already solid parts of HL1, "fixing" dull or nonsensical parts of HL1)
- talked about origins of the team members present, their previous work, how they got into modding, how they became successful
- talked about each individual's role on the mod team, and how they go about their business (e.g., voice actor talks about his past exp. and equipment; gives general tips)
- discuss potential business relations with valve in the future, and valve's involvement in the mod in general (not much from my understanding, but valve is obviously aware of the team and their work)

I enjoyed the interview a ton. I'm even more confident that BM:S will be a success now than I was after seeing their awesome media releases.

At last they gave us new info. I hope they release BMS in 2009 as they promise.
