Modding for Dark Messiah

Hey guys... This may be considered by some to be the wrong place, but those in the know will realize that DM runs on the Source Engine, so naturally I turned to you as the DM forums - if you'll excuse the bluntness - blow goats. So I was wondering - it seems that in DM there are no forms of conventional projectile weapons - if it were possible to throw in a gun of some sort. If you guys know how this could be achieved, let me know via this thread, PM, or e-mail at bblakeney at gm.

um why would you put in a gun in dark messiah. That would be like putting a machine gun in Lord of the Rings. Instead of shooting orcs with arrows at Helms Deep they would just mow them down. See what I mean? The game is like Medieval Fantasy kind of game, so therefore guns would not make it very fun eh? Specialize in archery if you like dropping enemies from far away.

Well, it's a great engine. Needless to say, the mod's not going to take place in that world. It will take place in the future, in "our" world. But the engine may switch to Crysis or FEAR, if we can get grappling hooks to work.
So anybody know how I could get guns to work?

You cant use the DM version of the source engine if that's what youre asking.

I recommend modding for a game that has similar textures/models to the mod you want to make (like HL2, FEAR, Crysis, etc) so that you can work with the existing content. Otherwise, you'll find that you practically need to create a whole new game. Dark Messiah is all about very old-style architecture, so, unless your mod will be in that setting, you'll have to create a whole new content library in order to make maps. You'll need new maps/textures/models/characters/sounds/HUD/etc. If you mod an existing game, all you need are maps (no additional content will be needed for them) and guns. Everything else is already made.

So, if your mod is about modern weapons, I highly, highly recommend modding for a modern game. It would take a very large, dedicated team of people to make a modern DM mod for Dark Messiah.
