Hi guys, am having trouble getting a custom tree model into my map. First off, this is not my model, it's a downloaded one, but the map i'm making is purely for screenshot/non-release/test purposes so don't worry about copyrights or anything like that.

I'm kinda new to the whole modelling scene and 3d max so bear with me. I have this model, and i have some textures. I made a new multi/sub-object material in Max, and set the leaf and bark textures of the tree to match the mat ID's on the model. I applied the material to the model, and in the 3d view the textures appear and the tree looks fine. So far so good...

Then i went to export model, and using a custom SMD exporter i created an SMD file of the model. Then i opened CannonFodder's Studio Compiler, selected my SMD file, ticked everything that should be ticked and then chose to Compile. It comes up with a message saying that my model has no faces, and asks if it is textured, which i'm pretty sure it is, but could be wrong.

Where am i going wrong? I've been told it's a problem with the model, that i haven't textured it properly or anything, but i've been working on fixing it for a couple days now and can't figure out what the problem is. I've attached the model, textures and SMD file below, if anyone gets the time can they have a quick look at it and let me know how to fix my problem.

Thanks

i hate to break it to you mate but that tree is nopt optimised for realtime rendering it has 21235 polygons most ingame props have 3000 polygons at the most. however the reason you're getting an error is because the tree has not been unwrapped properly . you're better off modeling it on your own.

Ah ok, well thanks for the reply...i won't be modelling any trees tho lol i can barely model a cube...if anyone knows of any custom tree models i could borrow that'd work for HL2 i'd be happy to hear from you :)
