Models and textures

Hi!

I want to get new models and textures into my map .. I have downloaded some but cant get them to work.... Plz help me...
And i am a noob to making maps so plz say it like :
1. start hammer
2. Do THAT
3. AND THAT
^^ like that

Models go in Steam\SteamApps\<account>\<game>\<mod>\models

Textures go in Steam\SteamApps\<account>\<game>\<mod>\materials

i've done that with textures but they still end up as black and pink checkered boxes even if i make the textures exactly how the tutorials say to.,,

What are the contents of the VMT?

that's is what the tutorial said all i needed for a basic texture... it didn't go into detail on other options for things to add so i left it at that.

edit: hahah wow that's why it didn't work... i didnt pay attention to the code at all and didn't notice the "test/my texture".... stupid me :E

And

1. The texture is pink and black .. like dangles white that his was too...
2. Where can i download model ? I have tried to download some.. but it didn't work... :S Can it be becouse it was half-life models ?....

omg.. first go left,, shoot the two guys up in the balcony. then jump down into the river. climb the second tree to the left()()()()()()then snipe the 4 guys coming up the river..and u know what to do from there

you need to get the texture and skin converter... i don't remember where i got it but there are a number of sites that have them hosted... just fallow the instructions included with the converter... the vmt file you will need to open in notebook or word and enter the code

where it says "test/mytexture" you put the name of the file minus the .vmt so an example would be like

"Lightmapped Generic"
{
"$basetexture" "bricktexture"
}

after you do that put the file in your materials foulder

thx.. The textures work now... But I still dont can get new models in...
Can someone help me with the model ? And if someone have plz give link to where I can download them....
