Uh, I'm new to this forum and the mods here are just a little trigger happy with the close button. So what if people want to get excited. Sheesh.

Okay, now everyone reply with their "That's fine, but it really is a problem here." posts.

I guess this one'll be closed after a couple of replies...

Bring it up with a moderator instead of making a new thread.

This is the way it works on this forum and its possibly the best HL2 site you'll find regardless.

Your last post was stupid, which is why it was closed. It's pretty simple. The mods here seem to do a good job.

I would have preferred that you PMed me with this issue, rather than making another thread in the HL2 Discussion forum. The staff here have been moderating these forums for a long time now, and we can pretty accurately predict how some threads are going to turn out. I've seen enough of them to know that yours would have just ended up as either spam or would just congregate as flames towards you... thus the reason to close. You could have easily expressed your opinions in an already-existing thread.

Well its obviously going to get closed if its not Half-Life 2 related, or at least moved. The mods are doing a fine job, with useless or repeated threads, and then idiots complain why was it closed. Starting a thread like this isn't going to make a difference, only create discussion on how mods keep on closing threads, and then another one will appear in a month or so.

Uh........okay. I'm sorry. Did I offend anyone?

I didn't think it was _that_ stupid. Just a harmless little outburst of elation.

I just read your other thread that just got closed. What do you expect people to talk about, seriously? People are just going to spam in it.

I dunno...I just felt like it was a witty contrast to the norm.

Heheh, threads that dont have really usefull discusion often get closed pretty quick here you know. Its because were so damn busy. If they wernt then the front page would fill up with elation... and nothing to actually discuss.

Its not personal :) :p

I guess I'm just too subtle sometimes. My post was an attempt to get people to reflect on how overly serious and cautious we get as we get older, instead of becoming filled with energy at the drop of a hat like we were when we were younger. In other words, where does the magic go?

Alright, I'll let it go now. :bounce:

Maybe you folks should make a sticky in this forum that says not to make these types of threads but to bring it up in pm or somehting.

Better yet, I've had an idea for a while for Site Discussion for a Sticky. People only really post in here for a few reasons, and maybe if you had a sticky it would lower the number of the same question being asked. I always see:

-People asking how to change their names
-People wondering where to "sign out"
-People complaining about specific mods or something
-smiley request threads will never be commented on :p

I'm sure there are more, I would just have to check.

You guys should put "posting and you!" as a sticky on every forum. Its funny and educational...

They're not close-happy, they simply do what they have to do..

I'd say I was close-exstatic :)

Heh. Fraid we run a tight ship here, most of us have been moderating this forum here for over a year.. :)

Mkay. Just never been on a forum where threads get closed so often. I'll keep all this in mind.

Go to steampowered.com for a closefrenzy / deletefrenzy / banfrenzy. I doesn't even help over there. The place is still a mess.

This forum is another chapter though. I think it's good that useless threads get closed. Maybe this one should be closed as well :)

Party on mates!

Shut up HalfLife2Addict, he's not attacking mods, he's just new here and wanted to understand why so many threads get closed, most likely to avoid creating threads that will piss the mods off. Why ban him for being cautious enough to enquire about it, to avoid stepping on people's toes. Better he start this thread than yet another "Why was my thread closed?" thread.

It's a legitimate question, and here's my legitimate answer.

So many threads get closed because so many threads are either pointless, stupid, or rehashes of other closed threads that were pointless and stupid. Then there are the automated spoilers. Then there are the incoherent flame-wars. Then there are the redundant threads posted by newbies and veterans alike who don't use forum search or even scan the first two pages for identical topics. It's part of the reason I barely visit these forums anymore.

I'd say only 30- 40% of the threads on here are necessary, and the mods are pretty merciful in not closing every single unnecessary thread.

And HalfLife2Addict, being officious is as bad as - or worse than - "attacking" mods. Calm down.
