Electronic Arts officially announced the promised reboot of its Medal of Honor franchise today, revealing that the long-running shooter series is finally leaving World War II behind.

Instead, the new title--simply referred to as Medal of Honor--will take players to "war-torn Afghanistan," with Electronic Arts promising a "best-in-class single-player campaign" inspired by "real events" and crafted with the assistance of the US Special Operations Community's Tier 1 Operators unit "to create the most authentic modern war experience."

Medal of Honor will hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, with EA Los Angeles handling the single-player and the Battlefield veterans at EA DICE on multiplayer.

I feel like doing a Willie and USING ONLY CAPS AND LOTS OF PROFANITY TO DESCRIBE MY ENTHUSIASM ABOUT THIS NEWS

DICE MULTIPLAYER HOLY FUKCING SHIIT!!!

So, shitty infantry combat and unbalanced vehicles are a high probability? :p

MP game balancing is gonna be a bitch

Can't say that I will fall for the hype this time. Airborne was SUCH a letdown after the high hopes I had for that title. I will not be thinking the same thing this time. I hope they can give me reason to like this franchise again...its been quite a while.

I dont get why people like MoH, it seriously SUCKS. I cant find a single great thing about it. When it use to be popular and i go to some friends house and they are all like "shit man u gotta play this its amazing" and after 5 minutes it feels like im going to vomit.

Gameplay is horrible HORRIBLE HORRIBLE

kill this franchise...with fire.

I was sold on "the Battlefield veterans at EA DICE on multiplayer". I don't care much for singleplayer.

I guess we can expect the usual "PC version delayed till blah blah blah".

Wow! A World War II franchise is branching out and doing present day settings? Amazing! Wouldn't it be just incredible if the developers of the sub-genre defining Medal of Honour: Allied Assault made a game or even two about Modern Warfare?! I would totally play the sequel of my housemate's copies after they paid massively inflated high-street prices, two weeks ago!

It is of course very apparent that EA is trying to copy Infinity Ward's success with Modern Warfare. I do hope though that the new MoH will be a bit more on the realistic side.

First two games were awesome, rest is shit. Allied Assault is also good, but not good as first two. They're still better than what IW made so far.

In before the "IW actually made MoH:AA" argument.

Wow, last MoH game I played was Rising Sun, because I had lots of fun with Frontline.

Also, doesn't DICE to the Battlefield games? I dislike those, except for 1943 (the new one on xbl)... which is okay.

The earlier Battlefields on console sucked from what I have heard. BC was pretty decent though, wasn't it?

they didn't really - call of duty was one of the most dumbed down games I have ever played. sure it was good, there were some great scenes, but there was zero interaction. united offensive (cod's expansion) was ten times better than original cod.

MoH:AA was made by 2015. Most people left that studio to form Infinity Ward and make Call of Duty.

What is "BC" again?

Battlefield: Bad Company.

I know - but they weren't the one who made mohaa a good game. those left 2015 were simply after quick cash. now they make shitty console games for casual players.

Yes, the talented ones stayed behind took the MoH franchise from strength to strength, and made the brilliant Men Of Valor. Hang on......

Heheh I remember that game. It was full of promise but it sucked so hard.

World War I needs some lovings.

As do other, more interesting conflicts.

How about we play as CIA agents ****ing up South America? Or Soviets in Afghanistan?

But my biggest wish is getting an honest, unbiased game focusing on German soldiers in World War II. With campaigns for Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS and Volkssturm.

However cool a WWI game would be, I can't see it working gameplay-wise. 99% of the engagements were oldskool pitched battles with massive troop movements and no room for solo actions. I'd love to see a game pull it off though.

And concerning playing as ze Germans, part of the singleplayer campaign in the upcoming Red Orchestra game is played from a German perspective iirc.

those who made MoHAA also made Sin's expansion pack before MoH, stupid

What a great idea, copy Modern Warfare and hope you can stop your franchise from going down the shitter. **** original ideas.

This game WILL be shit.

I also want a game like this. It'd be nice to play as someone else for a change. The Germans and Japanese got stories to tell too! :O

I always thought of MoH as CoD with a different name. Or the other way around rather.

IIRC, many of the devs who made MOHAA split from 2015/EA and went on to form the COD series.

2015 (pronounced Twenty Fifteen) is a video game developer founded in 1997 by its President and CEO, Tom Kudirka. Currently, 2015 is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 2015 is perhaps most famous for the development of the highly successful PC game Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Some members of this company later went on to form Infinity Ward, lead developer of the Call of Duty franchise.

22 devs, including project leads left 2015 to form IW

Like I said in the 'MW2 sales - holy shit' thread, EA will be kicking themselves that they slacked-off on this series so badly over the years.

They'll probably license a game engine to get this out as quick as possible.

Now they fly through the sky on sleighs powered by money and action movie cliches

MOH:AA Was the only good game in the franchise. DICE is the only reason why this might not suck balls. But considering their very own game Battlefield 3 will probably be this MOH's competition, I can see them sabotaging it. :D

This.

Assuming they stay away from scripts that even the writers of 24 deem 'unrealistic' they might well be in with a shout.

Personally since John R took over as CEO of EA I feel that there's been more of an emphasis by them as a whole in terms of delivering quality product, so I'm optimistic that this might turn out to be quite interesting. That the tagline is about fighting with your mind, I suspect this will probably be a slightly different beast from MW2.

Darkest of Days dabbles in the Russian front of WW1 and puts on a brave face trying to fit WW2-game style objectives into the mix. I honestly believe I've been won round to the idea that a game based on WW1 could be pretty good. Of course, no game could be further from being that game than Darkest of Days, but I see potential in the idea.

I'm actually interested in this. I felt kinda betrayed by MW2 and Infinity Ward's decision to make the game retarded. SP was fun and all but not really special, and totally silly. The Spec Ops and MP was decent though, but overall a big step down from CoD4 and a nasty turn for the series.

This game, focusing on real-life conflicts, should at least address those issues. And EA is also likely to make sure it's high quality if they want to compete with CoD. It'd be real nice to play one of these games that actually tries to be about modern warfare.

I always thought of MoH as CoD with a different name. Or the other way around rather.
It's almost the same as the difference between 'Band Hero' and 'Rock Band.' Different publishers with very similar competing titles. Hell, it makes sense from a business perspective--as long as each game offers something exciting and unique.

Modern Warfare2 really set EA's MoH up nice if you think about it. MW2 fell through with a very short SP game, a high price, ****ed up the PC community - and what do you know - EA is promising awesome multiplayer. And EA picks up all the new MW2 fans that Modern Warfare2's $300,000,000 USD advertising campaign generated.

They have a great opportunity, now all they have to do is deliver a great game.

That's just what I'm thinking.
