Mom hits dog

My mom was out in the backyard with my dog about 10minutes ago, I was watching them.. my mom thinks shes some kind of trainer or something and always thinks the dog will obey her every command.

I was watching her and the dog was just being the playful dog she always is, my mom was holding onto her leash. Obviousily the dog resisted abit considering somebody she hardley knows was keeping her from playing in the backyard where she needed to run around, etc. The dog kept resisting and my mom kept tugging on the leash to use her choke collar, and yelled at her to "Sit!", dog kept resisting and my mom raised her hand above her own head (not the dogs) and hit her very hard on the stomache.

I saw this with my own eyes and without thinking ran outside and yelled at my mother. "You don't ****ing hit her!" my mom tryed to claim the dog bit her on the arm except theres 2 reasons why that is a lie. My dog has never bit anybody in her life, we rescued her at 3 weeks old. The fact that I saw the entire thing and never saw the dog bite her on the arm is also reason enough.

I am very angry right now, and don't plan on leaving the dog alone with my mother ever again. I think i'm very lucky I found out she would hit an animal now - instead of in the future where something worse may happen. Am I overreacting? I don't think I am, but if you do.. tell me.

Discipline is very important with animals like dogs. Hitting a dog is a little less controversial than hitting a child IMO.

However, vets reccommend positive re-enforcement rather than punishment, although that takes A LOT more effort.

Smacking a dog on the but is discipline.

Raising your hand above your head, and smacking the dog on the stomache as hard as you can is not discipline. I even heard a "thump" and I was inside watching her.

I would be a bit more understanding had it been someone else, but my dog has never spent time with my mother, she had no right to keep the dog from going to the bathroom and running around the backyard AND THEN hit it when the dog didn't do what she wanted it to do.

The dog did not bite her, incase you didn't read my post.
 
Some people are just really dumb with animals, they treat them like slaves, expecting them to do every single thing you want them to do.
 
Buy a book on dog training and learn the right way to do it. Thats the best idea.

I don't see a problem wtih hitting it for discipline. However, this incident just sounds really dumb. Not animal cruelty or anything along those lines, but just a shitty reason.

Unless she really WAS bitten, then it's called for.

You never have to hit an animal to train it or show it thats its done somthing wrong. Only ignorent people or people who just dont care for there animals feelings will hit them.

A friend of mine was around someones house, the person who lived there had some dogs (I forget what breed), who had just had puppies, she desided it would be very smart to take the puppies and play with them etc. The mother bit her in the face, cutting into her skin and allmost taking out an eye. I was of course worried about her, but the first thing she said to me was "Stupid ****ing dog" I realy wanted to tell her why the dog attacked her and it was her own fault... but Im not *that* much of a bitch..

Oh, the dog in question never had any history of violance.
 
sorry for the offtopic but this reminds me of an old flash where an Indian guy has a dog that is kicked by his neighbour or something like that :D (it's really old).

Basically what Burn said is correct..

Dogs have feelings to, do you think after hitting it, it is going to trust you much longer?
 
I am agianst this kind of abuse cause it can make the dog a panzy towards humans. Shame on your moms. Topic was kind of funny, was expecting another news story.

ANYWAYS

I don't see any problem with striking pets lightly to get a point across. Of course, if you seriously hurt it or even hurt it a little, then you're a jerk. But the menace of the hand movement is just getting the point across not to friggin' do that. I've never done it myself, and I probably won't ever do it, mostly cuz I couldn't bring myself to. But also cuz I don't want a dog, cat, or any other type of pet in my household. Unless my girlfriend wants one, but in that case its not my dog and its not my dogshit all over the carpet. :D

It also seems like you have some kind of other problem with your mom, BF2slut. :)

You should slap her.

all she said was she hit the dog on the butt after she tryed bite her.

I watched the whole thing, she did not hit it on the butt (it doesn't matter anyways) and the dog never bit her, or anybody else in its entire life. Yea I do have issues with my mother, its personal crap but my parents have been seperated 2-3 times and they always get back together.. Mother has a long history of lieing to the family.

Maybe she should have took hold of the dog by the neck if it actually did bite her, but raising her arm like a club and hitting the dog in the side...no, momma shouldn't notta done that. I say, just ask your mom not to hit her like that...

If your mom is anything like my friend's mom, all she needs is a man.. My friend's mother is a meanie sometimes and sometimes she just hates the world.. This is all caused due to her being divorced.. She needs a wee wee..

Same my dog comes on command, don't even have to wave just say it normal voice and he'll be right there.

He's getting really old though now :[. Needs help because he can't jump off the bed and stuff now.

moral of the entire story buy a book that tells your mother how to train dogs, and make sure she knows what she did was wrong. Oh and ask her to bring you a drink...when she says no get it yourself, find her and smack her right in the ovaries. Ooooh agression today, must be the heat.

Truth. My mum does the same kind of thing as BF2 slut's does. She just speaks to my dog lightly in a conversational tone of voice, knocking out whole sentences of commands (polite requests) and then gets frustrated when the dog doesn't comply. We never even taught him how to sit, so I don't know where she got the idea that he's learnt to understand English.

Having said that I'm always the one guilty of striking him out of anger...

Same here...my dog's getting old now too, about 12 or 13. Still energetic when he's in the mood. But he spends most of the summer hiding under the bed from flies. This pic is maybe 6-7 years old now, but he still looks identical (previous owners docked his tail). He's a little bigger than the picture makes it seem.

thats one really nice looking dog try to talk it over with ur mom if it gets to serious.
 
Going to dog school for the first months will really help you out. It will have less sparetime , but you won't regret it later.
 
sorry but your mom is ...k I wont say it ... but there's never a reason to hit a dog it teaches them nothing except fear and will one day if done often enough lead to the dog attacking you in defense ..I've seen it happen many times


there are other ways of teaching a dog obedience


talk to your mom, tell her what she did was wrong and how it made you feel
 
Ok, in my oppinion. Report her to something that handles that kind off stuff).
I can see people beating up other people, or even killing each other. But when they turn to animals.. Gah. I just can't stand it.

I hate any animal cruelty, my dad used to hit my dog back in the day and it led to some pretty big fights. It's totally wrong, your dog looks so nice, give me your address so I can knock on your door and then punch your mom in the face.

you dont have to hit him to make him comply ..just try patience

just think of it this way ...you're taking out your frustrations out on him because you've failed to communicate what you want. A dog doesnt learn by example nor does it problem solve. A dog learns by endless repetition. they dont understand language but they do learn to recognise the tone and sound of a command
