all the sudden doing things like reading forums, and just working on the computer hurts me eyes really bad, I have to look away every 15 seconds cause it starts to hurt.

all the forums I go to are light colored like this or white.. could that be why? cause my entire room is dark cause my lightbulbs burned out :dozey:

anywayz it hurtz make it better plz k thx

The fact that you're in total darkness doesn't help at all, no. Get a lamp or something, but don't place it directly in front or behind the monitor, doing so will increase the problem - somewhere off to the side is ideal. Also, check the refresh rate of the monitor - if it's 60-70Hz, you might want to try increasing that if your monitor allows it.

That's your problem

Just lower the brightness on your monitor.

Do all of the above
Close ur eyes.
Firmly press your fingers over your eye lids and gently push in (not so much that it hurts ofcourse)
Repeat the 3rd step every few minutes

When you realise that your eyes are still causing you discomfort, simply type with your eyes closed.

Not quite sure if this is sarcasm or not? i'll sue for damages, fawker!

I'm not sure if it is either! But i did read that 3rd step in a book about eyes, so try it. i do it sometimes and my eyes feel a bit better. really you'd wanna see your GP or something if it's that big a problem to ya. goodluck!

oh and really, type with your eyes closed, spell check later.

My eyes never hurt when looking at the computer but sometimes I get really dizzy, I really hate that.

Mine have started to hurt as of late too. I've been trying to spend less time on my computer and when I start getting uncomfortable I'll take a break

Stay away from the computer if your eyes hurt.

Let them recover in natural light.

See a doctor.

press power button on computer for 5 seconds

problem solved

Would it be okay if the lamp was two to three feet above the monitor? It's kind of off to the side - the up side.

That should be okay, just so long as it's not glaring into your eyes while you concentrate on the monitor. My setup is that I have an equilateral triangle, with the three points being the monitor, myself and a directional sidelamp which focuses most of its light away from me, and onto a wall - the result is that I'm not getting any glare because it's not facing me, but it still provides ample light to compliment the monitor.

yes. that ^. make sure there is ample light. gaming in darkness isn't good for your eyes. doesn't have to be bright in your room, but just enough for a good level of ambient light in your whole room. i have an overhead light with a dimmer control, perfect for gaming, because you can put it at low level, so its pretty dark with no glare, yet the ambient light covers the whole room.

and also, some peoples eyes can see that 85hz is flickering(go outside on a sunny day for a while, then come back inside, look at the screen with your periphreal vision and you might be able to see it flickering at 85). i do anyway. 100hz is preferrable.

i have practically the same setup, but i have a lamp behind the monitor facing the wall making it really bright in my computer room

my eyes hurt right now, mind you i have been getting heavily drunk over the past 2 nights, with random sessions of css and UO...:|

Most screens can only go 85 or lower.
I'm currently using this screen at 72 Hz. Lol, just noticed it can go to 85 Hz, set it to that now.

I only get a headache if I sit in front of my computer all day during 2 weeks. But then I have to wait another week to let it rest :p

at 1280x960+ thats true. most decent monitors can do 800x600@100hz though

Question : If you set your screen @ 100Hz while it can support it, will it deteriorate faster? (Is the chance of it buggering out on you greater?)
