Monitor resolution issues

Okay as you can see in my sig, I have a 21" Sony G500 monitor that displays up to 2048x1536 @ 75hz. When I first hooked it up, I guess it used a default driver and everything worked fine. However I had that annoying bug where Windows would constantly reset it to 60hz. I know the fix in Ati CCC but I figured that installing the actual monitor driver would be a better alternative.

I found and downloaded the "correct"? driver and installed it, however this must have been wrong, because it wouldn't let me display above 1600x1200. So I uninstalled the driver and went back to default again.

Now the problem is whenever I change the resolution above 1600x1200, it just "stretches" the desktop so that a portion of the desktop is always off the screen. I have to "pan around" my desktop instead of compressing it all to fit on the screen. It's a major pain. Same thing when I try running a game higher than 1600x1200, a portion of the screen is always cut off...

There's some options in Catalyst control center as far as displaying resolutions go, and I have to choose "display all modes, even unsupported" in order to get it to display any resolutions above 1600x1200. However they all have the same problem. I don't know if this is a Catalyst issue or a monitor driver issue.. Seems wierd since the default driver worked fine with Cat 5.7, then I installed the G500 driver, updated to 5.9, rolled back the monitor driver, and now I'm having the problem...

I'm just not sure what to do now... I'm thinking about just uninstalling Catalyst along with the monitor drivers, unplugging the monitor, and then reconnecting it - and then reinstalling Catalyst 5.9 along with the correct G500 driver - if I can find it.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.
