I picked up the Monster Hunter Tri demo last night, though, I thought it was supposed to be made available tomorrow. The graphics are definitely the best I've seen on the Wii and the quests are a good deal of fun. I already pre-ordered the deluxe version that comes with the classic controller pro. Anyone else pick up the demo? If not, you can get it for at any gamestop for free.

i've tried the monster hunter games and i didn't like it. too clunky and wide open for my tastes

Oh man, that actually looks pretty fun but those load screens look annoying as hell!!

You will find that you are in an incredibly small minority. A minority that is filled with casuals. Tri especially is already the best-selling 3rd party Wii game, and I've heard it's not even as good as MH Freedom Unite. I haven't played it though to validate that myself as I have no Wii.

According to whom and what exactly?

Tri especially is already the best-selling 3rd party Wii game, and I've heard it's not even as good as MH Freedom Unite. I haven't played it though to validate that myself as I have no Wii.
So you've basically heard the game is great and it's a 3rd best selling wii title, therefore it's a great game?

Well, shit dude, at least play the game yourself first then prove us wrong.

I've played MONSTER HUNTER games. I said I haven't played Monster Hunter Tri. Not playing one game in the franchise != not playing Monster Hunter. You were saying that you don't like Monster Hunter as a franchise. I was arguing on behalf of MH as a whole, not MH3.

Reading comprehension, man.

I can see why maybe Monster Hunter is not for you if you can't keep up with a simple conversation. Learning the ins and outs of MH must seem like advanced quantum physics.

I wish they made them for Ps3. Really had fun with a few friends on the psp iterations.

Whatever you say. IMO it's a shit franchise with a cluster**** gameplay.

But then again, I'm a "CASUAL" gamer who happens to love playing Demon's Soul.

I never got into the first game, but I seriously regret not having my ps2 and my copy of it now. I'd love to play it again and not suck.

I wish they made them for Ps3.
They were going to, actually. Development costs were too high. Too high for CAPCOM. It's saddening.

At least we get Kinda-Sorta Monster Hunter in Space. (LP2)
I'm a "CASUAL" gamer who happens to love playing Demon's Soul.
implying that Demon's Souls on even NG+++ has a comparable learning curve to Monster Hunter

I wasn't implying anything.
But then again, I'm a "CASUAL" gamer who happens to love playing Demon's Soul.
calling out Demon's Souls whilst bolding and quoting casual in a sarcastic manner
Pretty sure you were trying to refute being called a casual by dropping that you play Demon's Souls. That somehow mentioning Demon's Souls was going to be like, "Oh damn, this guy isn't a casual. He plays DEMON'S SOULS, so when he talks shit about Monster Hunter, maybe he actually has something to back him up." That is, the implication that you are not casual, because you play Demon's Souls.

As if Demon's Souls is more than farming and rolling. It's ludicrously fun farming and rolling, but that's all it is. Farm. Roll. Farm n' roll. Sometimes you roll and farm. The learning curve also disappears almost instantly.

So, summarizing your entire posts, you are butthurt because I said I dislike this game? And that automatically makes myself and others have bad taste in games and for that reason, we fall under minority that is filled with casuals? Tell me if I'm right or wrong here.

So what if I play Demon's Souls? If DS = farm and roll, then MH= party and farm. That's all there it is in that game. Party up with people and just farm. Learning curve? That's depends. Some people get used to with game mechanics within few hours, some people within few days or even weeks.

you are butthurt
The other two seemed to take their being called out on having bad opinions just fine. It seems that you are the one who is butthurt and trying to defend yourself here, saying, "BUT I PLAY DEMON'S SOULS!"

You are mad.

And casual.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion. I don't think you even know the definition of the word "casual", but w/e. That's just my humble opinion. But here's a useful advice for you. Don't call out others and blatantly belittle them just because they have different opinion from yours. At least, you wouldn't look like an asshole. You will thank me for this. Trust me.

What am I reading here?

But, advice deserves advice in turn: if you say you hate a game franchise and repeatedly call it shit IN A THREAD ABOUT SAID FRANCHISE, be prepared to be attacked. This goes for you, me, anybody. If someone says, "Hey, have you guys heard about this game? I want to talk about this game!" and the first words out of your mouth are, "I hated every game in that franchise! They're shit!" don't act indignant when someone says you've got bad taste.

Furthermore trying to score brownie points by saying "Well I play X game so I can't be labeled as blah blah blah" (in this case, casual) just makes you look like a defensive ass trying to fight your way out of an increasingly narrow hallway. I see people do this all the time for the vidya, and it's just sad.

Anyway, good arguing with you. I had fun. Enjoy Demon's Souls. I'm probably going to jump on in a few minutes myself.

So can someone tell me if Monster Hunter is pretty close to the monster hunting quests you could go on in FFXII? I get the impression that it would be and as such would be a ton of fun, but is that really what its like? Are there towns to buy goods? I love me some towns in my RPGs. That's one of the reasons I likely won't be playing FFXIII any time soon.

Yes, there are towns, but only two. One for offline and the other is for online where you can meet up with other people. I don't play FF, so I can't really say if it's similar to that.

I liked the one on ps2,only I played

even though it wasnt exactly a great game the whole thing of killing big dragons and such was enough for me

still I sucked and I hate that you cant pause,I dont think it would have been that dificult to put pause in offline mode

does this one have pause in offline?

Has anyone tried the Wii chat thing? I'm planning on picking this up but hate having to use xbla or psn to chat to friends while playing!

Not in the game, but you can press the Wii home button to pause it.

and why is not implemented? same was whit this other game phantasy star online for sega I think

whats whit the no pause in offline?

The one problem that always put me off Monter Hunter was the Godawful camera controls. Having the option to play with the classic controller, using that fancy newfangled dual-analogue that's all the rage, means I may finally play one. The premise has always interested me.

Not to mention that it's only $10 with the game.

No far from it.

I have to say controls on this game has a steep learning curve and all monsters have patterns you must remember. It's a deep game, ignore the nay sayers. No experience points no level up, just pure grinding for new raw materials for equipment.

Each weapon you have has a steep learning curve that takes hours to master with different stats and elements suited for different monsters.

I never played the Ps2 versions but psp with 4 players is the most fun I had with a portable.

Never tried any of these. I thought Monster Hunter was some kind of Pokeman game.

I like that the weapon is slow and there is a pause on strike. I've always loved that - like in Samurai Showdown or something.

Looks pretty fun, but it looks easy to me. So maybe you guys aren't very good at video games. Maybe I'm just that good, I don't know.

But it looks like one of those games where you'd break the shoulder triggers from dodging (pressing the buttons so hard trying to get the **** out of the way) Controls look tight.

No collision detection on creatures except while they are attacking seems like it would detract from the game.

EDIT: The rotisserie made me lol. I'd buy this game if it was a PC game.

Monster Hunter Tri comes out in 6 days if anyone is interested. It has an 87 on Metacritic so far and is being called the best Monster Hunter yet. We should exchange usernames or whatever they use in the game to play online, but I'm not getting Wii Speak and will be turning off other players' voices if given the option.

Haha, NO. Far from it. It takes a long time to get good at Monster Hunter. I've heard comparisons of challenge in MH with Demons Souls, though I haven't played it.

I just picked this up today; Thinking about playing it now. I'm indecisive about spending my time with Monster Hunter and Life. No, not real life, but the show, Life (though, I'm sure I'll have to schedule my time between real life and MH soon enough).

Yes.

Also, cow, MH is harder than Demon's Souls because the difficulty is constant.

I don't see the appeal of this game. You guys have fun though!

This is fun and addicting.

It really beat my expectations. I'm sure it'll tide me over till RDR. And, to those that think it looks easy, it really isn't. It's a lot harder than it looks. Some of these fights take 10-20 minutes the first run.

I haven't played a MH since the first, but even that was tough. F*cking Rathalos scared the shit out of me.

dam I wish I could have it,is like the kind of game I need

the first monster hunter felt the same too but I couldnt defeat the rathalos so I couldnt advance very far

dam you no-pause!

I've only played about 5 hours, so I'm still in the tutorial part. Been too busy and haven't got to really sit down with it much. When I go online I'll tell you guys.
