Moon

That's a blessing if I ever heard one. If Gibson loves it chances are I'm going to be crazy about this movie. It's only playing in the couple of artsy theaters we have here though.

I just saw it tonight.

Moon - 9/10 = really awesome psychological film. Way better than Sunshine in my opinion. Finally a good 2001: Space Odyssey contender...

Went 40 miles out of my way to see this today. Very very glad I did. One of the most amazing movies I've seen in theatres in a long long time. I laughed, I cried. 9/10. Absolutely amazing.

I Am looking forward to it but it seems somewhat anti climatic to me. I Am not entirely sure how the end plays out but i got an idea. I hope that i am wrong.

I might try to go see this with a friend tomorrow.

Glad to see everyone else is enjoying the movie too.

The more I think about this movie the more I like it, and the more I want to see it again. It was such an excellent movie. Usually in these kinds of movies (Sunshine, Solaris) I actually end up being remarkably bored. This was fantastic though. Compelling, touching, interesting, funny. Sam Rockwell's acting was absolutely fantastic, too.

The shot of Sam crying in the rover with the Earth seeming so close and yet so far away made me cry.

I also cried at Sam's body being carried to the crashed rover.

I am actually thinking of seeing it again now :D

Definitely best film I've seen this year and in quite some time (definitely going to get the film on blu-ray when it is released).

This movie was excellent, but they didn't go enough into the plot. The ending was rather anti-climactic. It feels like it was a great movie that was cut short by about 30 minutes.

I agree. I kind of thought that the very brief audio clips of news reels was shitty. If they were going with a vague ending they could have just left it with the communications being up and the shuttle heading towards Earth. I can't even remember what was said in the clips, that's how unimportant they were.

In what way?

How many clones have there been since the original? Why did they start putting clones up there anyway? Is there anybody else on the moon? Is this the only mining base? The young clone didn't seem very upset at all about being a clone, and just accepted it like some sort of mission.

I know that good films often leave a lot of questions unanswered, but this just had slightly too many for my taste.

I thought that could be easily figured out by the transmissions that the daughter was originally barely talking and when Sam contacted Earth we found that she's now 15. So, the Sam that we start with is probably the 4th or 5th one or so.

Why did they start putting clones up there anyway?

My first thought when Sam started dying when they discovered the antennas blocking communication was "Oh God, they put some kind of limit on them like a leash". What really happens is up to some speculation.

Why the 3 year sentence? Is it because that's long enough to get things done without making them hopeless? Does it involve how much time one can take on their own? In one of the log's a clone started losing his hair. Do they start breaking down after 3 years, or is it related to some form of radiation?

Something happened when the original Sam was up there. There's speculation whether or not he willingly had clones created of himself, but we see even in the clone that the experience changed him. He was less violent, and very very socially removed. It may be as simple as the company not wanting to spend money on training, travel, and deal with that kind of thing, or it could be that clones aren't seen as being humans.

Even during the beginning we see Sam has begun to hallucinate, which is why he crashes. Is that a symptom from the real Sam? Is that part of him breaking down?

Is there anybody else on the moon? Is this the only mining base?

Why would that matter? The amount of clones that were in storage coupled with how self-sustaining that facility is (The only thing that even slowed it down was literally Sam crashing into one of the rovers) makes me think that it is the only one, and that it works wonderfully.

The young clone didn't seem very upset at all about being a clone, and just accepted it like some sort of mission.

He might have prior knowledge. Again, we don't know the world that the original Sam came from. Maybe cloning isn't all that rare. You wake up in a strange place, no memory of what happened. You're told there was an accident by a robot that you have familiarity with. Oh, and then you find your own body. I'd probably jump to that thought, too. Especially if he already knows that it's possible. For all we know the original Sam was setting this place up with this very goal in mind.

I know that good films often leave a lot of questions unanswered, but this just had slightly too many for my taste.

I actually really like how open the universe is. There's talk of another movie being set in the same world but being unrelated to this one. I'd be interested in seeing that.

I loved this movie and I really want to see it again, but I don't want to go 40 miles away for it. And the internet is failing at putting it online. Anyone know when it comes out on DVD?

I really, really, really need to see this movie. Goddamn it.

I am completely surprised by the lack of torrengajioas there are for it.

Even if, I'd rather wait for a screener than watch a Michael J. Fox-esque cam.

Similarly it doesn't seem to be screening anywhere in the UK except London. Did Sony not have the budget to distribute it or wut?

It screened in a few cinemas in the UK If I recall correctly from reading a listing a few weeks back. Closest showing to me was Birmingham and if my friends aren't even interested enough to go to Wolverhampton for much, fat chance they'd go to B'ham.\

Guess I'm waiting for the DVD.

Some of us already saw it on the big screen and just want to see it again, regardless of quality.

Yes, it's always all about me.

Yeah I had to go to glasgow to see it :|

it was playing at the cinema i work at but only for a week and was on late showings. pretty crappy really

Just came back from a screening of the Moon. Brilliant movie; glad I went in with little knowledge of the movie apart from the trailer. I was expecting a bit more from the soundtrack since it was Clint Mansell, but it still delivered. This felt like the first proper Science-Ficiton movie I've seen in a while. Can't wait for Blu-Ray.

I quite liked the ending too, and whoever was asking what was the audio clips about, it was something about Sam standing up against the Lunar corporation.

I didn't say that I didn't know what it was about. I said it was completely unnecessary. It added literally nothing to the movie.

Ooops my bad, didn't read the thread properly, just skimmed through it. Since District 9 is not out here yet, I might give Moon another viewing.

That's okay. Your avatar means you can do no wrong.

I'm still dying to see Moon again.

I wonder how district 9 compares to this?

I haven't seen it yet, but it looks amazing. They seem pretty different though, in every imaginable way.

Both of these movies were pretty highly anticipated for me. Moon exceeded my expectations, and just might be one of my top 20 Favourite Movies of all time.

Saw it at last, I liked it, it didn't feel like were building you up a story here, it was more the story been going for some time, you just caught a part of it,

Those are good stories, they make you think about the world.

Actually a thought occurred to me: do you think this movie will even be represented at the oscars (or anything like that) at all? If there is any justice then it damn well should be. Lord knows that this year has overall been ****ing terrible for movies.

Does he build himself some robot friends to keep himself company?
