Valve really cleaned up in Wired's Vaporware Awards, taking home a dishonorable mention for Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, placing fourth with Team Fortess 2, and first with Half-Life 2.

TF2 has placed in the vaporware awards top five every year since 2001. Let's hope a similar fate doesn't befall HL2, or we're going to have to convert PHL into an anime fan fiction archive or something.

What's the big deal, it was a joke. And why does it need to be closed down? The more HL community sites, the better.

The HL2 announcement and subsequent delay have hurt mod news, since most HL mods are waiting for the HL2 sdk. PHL doesn't have much to report on.
 
Just go and read my countless other posts bitching about fragmaster.

Hmmmm, anyone remember what started this whole rivalry with fragmaster? I seem to remember a little 'difference of opinion' (his opinion and everyone elses) about the september 30th release date. Personally I think lots took it a tad too seriously (fragmaster included), but is there any other reason everyone hates fragmaster? I only just made it in time to catch the main rants about september 30th, so i'm unaware of any other major issues. Are there any?
 
nevermind Fragmaster's comments.. how could a game that was only announced 8 months ago be vapourware already? seriously.. if u think the pple that awarded HL2 were dumb for doing so..

then i only wonder where that leaves Fragmaster and the rest who think HL2 is vapourware.. supposedly the gaming community is more well informed then the pple that create these shows.. oh well i hope Fragmaster's comments are taken as gospal by the general public.

Most of you started hating Fragmaster when he spouted his opinion about the Sep. 30 release. And he was right.

If you dont like him, dont listen to him. Me, personally, can identify with his sense of humour. The rest of you are too damn uptight to take everything he says with a grain of salt.

Exacly my way of thinking. Some of fragmasters arguments about the release date were crossing the line into insults, but anyone who's watched the animated 'delay movie 2' will know he can poke fun at himself when the oppurtunity arises. Plus, he didn't say 'I think HL2 is vaporware', he just posted the valid news that HL2 was voted 'vaporware of the year'. His remark about turning planethalflife into an anime fanfiction archive made me laugh, so I don't think it was meant to be taken seriously. Some people need to lighten up. :smoking:

i did not say Fragmaster is a tool for mentioning that HL2 got the vapourware award.. however if he thinks it was deserved, then hes no better than the creators of this award..

even in September, when he posted his opinions on HL, i personally did not think he was idiot or say anything to imply that.. infact i was one of the few that went into a thread that was "omgzors!!! lets all kill and burn Fragmaster1!!!!" and said to relax, its only an opinion..

anyway, i don't read much of his stuff.. and i don't hate him either.. but perhaps with all the comments about HL2 hes made.. pple think that he thinks "this just puts icing on the cake for that September 30th release date" /shrug
 
well

when fragmaster started telling everyone that halflife2 wouldn't make the september 30 date, i was pretty annoyed. for me it was valve vs. fragmaster, and obviously i was going to be on the side of valve. i mean, come on, they weren't going to announce a delay only a few weeks before the release date. surely if the game was no where near finished, then valve would have announced a delay long beforehand... well, fragmaster obviously got to gloat, and i just laughed at myself for being a retard. since then i'm definately on the sarcastic fragmaster "team" until valve finally makes a promise they can keep.
 
I wasn't referring to anyone personally, and I agree that fragmasters confidence in valve has been less than astounding. I just meant that I remember the days of the 'Kill fragmaster' threads, and it just proves that certain members of the forums can get slightly... over-exited. As I remember, it was mostly the headcrabs.

Just remembered, I was a headcrab at the time. And the hypocrite of the year award goes to....

I like Fragmeister.

His cynical opinion often wreaks with the truth. Many people dislike the truth.
Is this piece too hard on Valve? I don't think so. I also don't think Half-Life 2 is going to make April either, but that's just me.

I'll back up my main man , the Fragster, and say hell yeah of course it won't make the April release date. It's very well founded pessismism.
 
For a start I thought Fragmaster was right about the delay some time before sept 30th, I could see that the game wasn't going to come out. However i didn't like the way he was always telling people it was delayed and that they should believe everything he says because he has some kind of secret source that he can't tell us all about. He was practically gloating at the rest of us because he knew something we didn't.

He thinks he's funny which he's not, the flash things just made me cringe and just seemed like fragmaster was trying to insult the rest of us whith E grade cynicle comedy. I could laugh at it if it was good but it wasn't basically, a group of nerdy 14 year old American high schoolers could have come up with that in half the time and would have done better V.O's for it. I say American because nobody else in the world thinks we English speak like that or ever have done, at least when lets say the Ostralians take the piss out of the English upper class accent it's an actuall parody of it and not something that bares no relation to it whatsoever.

I don't really see how people can like Fragmaster and hate valve, all Fragmaster does is complain and all valve has done is make the best ever but with slightly bad punctuality. HL2 has only been delayed by a couple of months and we still get the odd bit of information about it now and again, so it's definately not vapourware and the people who gave it that are complete and utter morons.

I don't read PHL, infact I avoid gamespy websites altogether.
 
i'm obviously a newbie poster, but i've been reading the threads in this forum since last years e3, and my opinion on fragmasters posts were, it was a definate possibility. but when the kill fragmaster threads started popping up i just didn't understand the blind faith people had in valve
 
Come on...

No «kill Fragmaster BS» starting.

Me, for example, my post was purely sarcastic. Fragmaster has his opinions and I have mine. And I must say most of the time they are the same. Neither VALVe or him deserve anything worst than anyone else.
