no, that's not what it says, it says that girls 18 and up make up a larger percentage than guys 6-17

guys still hold the numerical advantage, but it's slipping

I still find it shocking. I dont notice that many.. maybe I play the wrong games heh.
 
Just goes to show, that gaming is fast becoming a form of entertaiment accepted by the masses, like movies.
 
My girlfriend went crazy when i tried to show her the HL2 media. And not in the good way. She almost walked away when the zombies were cut in half in the traptown video. She hates violence, and she hates gore and blood even more. The strange thing is, she likes playing Q3A, but she says the violence in that game doesn't look realistic enough to shock her. She also hates when I play games, because i tend to get sucked in and don't notice it when she talks to me. She only likes it when we play multiplayer against eachother, and even though we're in seperate rooms then, she feels closer to me than when i'm playing single-player games with her on my lap (yeah it's difficult hehe). A women, when will i understand them.

I think it is good news. I am also glad to see gammers are getting older. Because they will be more mature. I get chills when I play a game of cs and all that I see on the chat is little kids calling each other fags or worse.

hahah at least your G/f plays video games with you... the only way I could play a video game with my g/f would be if It were Diablo 2... and hell, I dont wanna play that! She says Half-Life is a pointless game and that HL2 will be even worse... But then again she played the original HL for about 5 minutes and came up with that conclusion because you didnt have any weapons when you start.... Im never gonna get through to her. ;(
 
if thats true then wtf cant i ever meet any....i swear to god there only a small handfull that play games at my high school. and paint ball, i wish they would start playing paintball avidly...ive been going to my local field all summer and ive only played with a couple of girls there this whole damn summer.....why the hell do most of my interests have to lay in male dominated areas.....

CNN may be true. Girls do play alot of web bases games... :)

But I don't think girls like PC games such as first person shooters etc...

When I go to a really big lan I see like 300 boys and 12 girls... lol :)
 
I think girls like roleplay games more then fps

I had a girlfriend once that would play video games with me all the time. She broke up with me for a Linux user :flame:

Lol man mine is like that too. I don't know why they're like that. Best guess is, because they like to get on men's nerves.

While we're on the subject, this reminds me of Starship Troopers (not the film, but the book by Robert A. Heinlein). One of the characters in the book describes a standard para-drop procedure. He mentions that most dropship pilots are women because they have better depth perception and reflexes than men. This book was written in the 70's (man), when emancipation was just beginning! I love tiny little details like that in a book.
 
The grrl gamers that don't like FPS or anything violent tend to get into somthing like The Sims Online......

OT: The Sims Online is nothing but a mere graphical text-based chat room where your avatar is visually performing tasks. Stupid and pointless game if you ask me. Why live life in The Sims Online when you can go out and actually do those things in real life? And now, with The Sims 2, you get to watch your avatar wet itself with even greater visual quality. Ooooo!!! The urine stain looks soo real!!! Sheesh.

back on topic: I know a bunch of chics that play games, but it's mostly Everquest or some other RPG. A couple of them play RTS and can kick my ass in WC3 anyday. And there's even less that play FPS. I think the problem with chics playing FPS is that they can't think spacialy, in other words, they can't think/imagine in 3d ver well. Scientific studies have shown that men are able to think dimensionally better than women. It's like those tests where they give you six squares put together in a flat shape, and it asks you to tell what shape it would form if you fold it up. It's one of the reasons why men make such good architects/model maker/builder/Game level designer.

what the heck....i'm a girl and i've been playing fps since i was in early elementary school, starting with wolfenstein (and then through doom, quake, heretic/hexen, blood, blah blah blah). i think it's more about the way you were raised or whatever--my dad and my cousin (a guy) used to play a lot of fps so i always played too. i never even used to think it was rare for girls to play since i've been playing so long.
my friends, on the other hand, never really played games like that and have never even heard of any of them, not even strategy games or stuff like that. i remember in middle school some guy was talking about starcraft and my friend asked what it was, and i started trying to explain but she didn't seem that interested so i just started dwindling off to "umm, never mind"
i was also better at those games than guys at my middle school were, hehe. i remember we used to have wolfenstein installed on the computers at school (weird but true) and i played it once for 15 minutes or so, and a guy was watching and was pretty amazed at how well i played since mostly all of them had to cheat...hahaha.

jeezus, you people are harsh!!! I read this somewhere in the nytimes.com or something similar about a year ago. I remember this because it was about gaming. And I'm not saying that all grrls can't be good at FPS, but I am saying that many(not all but a lot) just have problems thinking dimensionally

Argh! This is reminding me of the fact that i have to share my pc with my two sisters, we actually have 2 pc's in the house but one isn't that good (PIII 800, 128 ram, TNT2) so everyone wants to play on the better one. They play W3 all the time. (one of my sisters is 16, the other is 20:eek: ).

The way it works is this, i get back from college and my younger sister is already back from school and playing W3, so i have a little play on the lower computer but it only has W3 installed, then my older sister gets back from work and tells me to, and i quote ''get the fcuk off the computer, you're on it all the time!'' which is complete pap. So i get kicked off that and then later on i ask if i can go on and my older sister tells me she has been and work and i have only been at college so i should piss off. I'm not allowed to pester my younger sister because she tells my parents i've been horrible to her and i get bollocked.

The only time i can go on is early in the morning, or late at night (like now).And to think, i introduced them to W3, the only time they let me on is if i say i'll play one of them at it (throught the LAN) and it's gay because i always get beaten because they have way more pratice and probably cheat! My sloution is that when i upgrade the computer, i'll be able to say it's mine and play HL2 all the time!

They must have accidentally counted 12 year old cs n00bs with squeaky voices as girls ...
