What does a Wiki offer me?

I'm not even going to answer that.. you obviously don't understand what a Wiki is...

Ooh, ooh, I know this one, I know this one... just give me a minute... it's... it's a chance for illiterate and stupid people to have their say in real time with no quality assurance! I win!

Kinda reminds one of the concept of a democratic electoral process. Pff, common people know nothing; it's all about dictatorial oligarchy. Outsource to the peons only if absolutely necessary. Far superior system.

Garner from my political orientation, if you will, one of the major reasons I don't like the idea of this Wiki thing.

You sound like you're talking about a forum, where, yes, most of the people are complete morons. However, the Valve wiki is a place where people who have something useful and complete to present to the rest of the community may submit. It's not just a bunch of rampant tards posting as you make it sound...

"common people" have been driving the Half-Life mod scene for years, as will they continue with HL2. Without the community we would not be playing half the games we are today.

The idea that only people with something useful and complete to present will present violates the very concept of a Wiki: anyone and everyone can edit me for any reason whatsoever! Weeeeee!

Common people do not drive the mod scene--not the one with any attractiveness, anyway. It is the competent elite who provide content for the commoners (parasitic symbiosis, anyone?). Commoners who try to drive the mod scene are the reason we have such an abominations as iceworld and killbox.

...My point got lost somewhere in the midst of arguing for the hell of it. Ah well. Debate is healthy.

This new Wiki thing doesn't offer me anything more than what I've already got at the five or six forums I peruse: a good number of users, some of whom actually know what they're talking about, correcting each other and pondering ways of accomplishing effects. They're even asking for mapping help on the discussion pages! Discussion pages are not for mapping help questions, you fools!

I'm not going to argue this anymore... you've made some good points and I respect that.

I liked that :)

Eep, I think that's the fastest I've ever seen a debate end. You must be the coolest person who's ever disagreed with me.
