I presume I'm not the only what who notices this. And I don't mean just this forum (which considering the subject matter isn't surprising), but forums in general. Are guys more prone to forum addiction than girls or something?

There are more guys on the internet for obvious reasons, just ask Mr.Badg-*is silenced*

I think it's the opposite. There are far more girls than gals that use the internet. Although more guys than gals are intersted in HL2, which is why this forum only got three females.

Yerwot?

Anyway, on sophisticated forums, like this, there are many more guys. On AIM and teen forums, there are many more of the "girl" things...

:p

Girls tend to talk more on MSN and chatrooms. Males however visit forums on a subject that interests them, such as gaming.

I'd say more girls in chat rooms and more guys in forums.

I think its pretty balanced, actually, it just depends on the subject matter. Computer games forums tend to be male dominated. The Bon Jovi forums are pretty much all women. Stuff to do with supernatural things tends to be balanced/leaning towards women.

Myspace has a 16 - 10 girls to guys ratio. They must all be there >: (.

Not really on the teen forums I come accross there still are more guys than girls
(although the ratio isnt as skewed as this forum of course).

i r teh gurl

Women on the internet eventually take permanent residence in a ditch under my porch.

Only three? I thought we had more...........

Girls are not common in FPS based forums (conversely, there are shitloads on more RPG based forums, or anything to do with the sims)

The way I see it, this is mostly down to the social stigma that females face by becoming involved with computers.

Most people physically freak out when they see me playing doom 3 or something.. they don't understand how a girl can enjoy killing grotesque monsters amidst fireballs and bloodspray.

Its not part of society as it stands now to have girls doing that, and so there are not many who do.

Forums are similar. Females are generally more sociable than males (on a base level anyway), and so you would expect them to be more prevalent on forums, but thats not the case. Mostly because girls aren't "supposed" to be into computers...

Hell there are always exceptions though, but usually, there is a price to pay when you are an exception.. I remember other jealous girls in my school who just got the shits with me being so "techie", or who looked down on me because I was quieter and less slutty than them.. ah well. :)
I'd be glad to answer any serious questions that people might have..

Forums aren't sociable. I mean.. they are in the sense of the talking, but not on a person to person level. It's not the same at all as talking to someone and actually being a sociable person. That's why you have those weirdos who may have 5000 posts on their favorite forum but never speak to anyone outside of home and eventually shoot up their school and then themselves :dork:

If it's someone's only form of socializing they have some problems. And yes they do, before anyone goes "well it THEIR way"- well their way is so removed from societal norm that it's 'not normal' ..

well that's the definition of being removed from societal norm but I guess it has to be pounded in. It's not good to have forums as people's only social communication :( U-N-H-E-A-L-T-H-Y

um most of the people at hellokitty.com aren't even in middle school yet, or just barely are.

10-15 age range probably.

I don't think it really relieves stress in me enough to be classified as a "stress reliever".. I just play them because they're fun! its like an action movie that you're participating in! :)

If I'm really pssed off (I rarly am though) I find GTA fairly stress releaving. Hell, if anything GTA has reduced the amount of shootouts in society.
