I wasn't sure if I should of put this in off topic or here but it kind of has to do with RAM so heres my question. I remember hearing how some bodies and things would disappear in the HL2 movies and that was because the computer memory was used or something and needed more so I was wondering if I got more RAM would that mean more things like bodies in HL2 would stay and not have to disappear? Sorry if this is a really stupid question I don't know that much about all this stuff.

You don't need to spam alright? Just post if you know and if you don't then don't post anything at all.

Exactly.

Well, how much RAM do you have, and what kind?

Right now I have 256 DDR ram. I think its PC2100. I was thinking of getting another 256 PC3200 DDR.

NO you're mobo proberly couldn;t handle pc3200. You shouln't mix and match RAM. Another 512MB couldn't hurt.

That means that I should always get PC2100 DDR RAM? I'll try and get 512 but most of the ones I've seen so far are more then $75 and thats all I'll be able to get.

Correct. But you should use SiSandra to find out exactly what you have.

I'm almost positive that it's PC2100. But anyway, back to the original question, does anyone know the answer?

Its a waste anyway. If you had a PC2100 256 MB stick of RAM and a PC3200 256 MB stick of RAM they would both only run at PC2100. They both run as fast as the slowest stick. So if you wanted 512 RAM you should just buy 1 x 512 RAM PC3200 or 2 x 256 PC3200 RAM.

As far as ingame performance.....i think it would have more to do with your vid-card and cpu....

Those models have a pretty good amount of polys....so it takes alot of horsepower to render alot of them + any new enemys that showup after you kill them.

If your computer only has 256mgs of ram....That would not be something i would worry about.

I would upgrade your ram anyway though. 512 is the unspoken minimum for most modern games.

1024 RAM should be able to handle anything for a while. But you said you only had 75 bucks to spend :/.

In theory thats true.......but its usaully more trouble than its worth..as there can be conflicts and such.

Well, I'm going to try and get another 512 PC2100 DDR RAM this month. I found one on sale for $70 so I'll try and get that one. After I get it, I'll have 768 RAM.

PS For Crabcakes:
I got a ATI Radeon 9800 and a 1.8 GHz 2200+ Athlon XP Processor.
