I'm assuming it might be the Strider(s).

However there are other guys we don't know about but have been mentioned.

Here's one right here.... we don't know about these "Prowler" guys....

And also, there might possibly be unrevealed enemies until we actually play....

What are you thoughts on this?

That giant ant lion looks quite a fierce one to.
What about those flying hovering heli things?

The most challenging in terms of 'smart' AI will probably be those cyborg assassins we've only seen artwork of.

I dunno, they seem easy to me, just some simple dodge and firing. They'll probably be pretty annoying flying around after ya though. :p

That'll depend on how accurate their gunfire will be, the Apache in HL was one of the most dangerous enemies available.

We saw how accurate they were... they have like a zone-in attack. Lol.

Also, they seem to have to be relatively close to fire at you, otherwise they just chase you down.

I'm talking about the flying-machine gun ships things by the way.

The G-Man
This guy is going to be the most daunting for me. There's still so much mystery behind him and I hope he plays a bigger part in the game this time.

We haven't even seen half the HL2 enemies yet, let's not get too ahead of ourselves here :p

Hehehe. Maybe the guy is just nuts. Lol.

I doubt we've seen it yet whatever it is. IMO the toughest enemies you go toe to toe with in HL1 were the assassins.

When I meet them in HL1 for the first time, I felt like smashing my monitor, god they where annoying!

Man.....Gargantuas with HL2 graphics....now thats something to fear.

Those black crows are very suspicious... what could they be planning?

May there will be some kind of alient which can control your mind.

OK, what about the alient AI? are they going to be smart or going to be similar to those of prevoiuse games such as half life, quake3... etc.

You guys remember that big brute looking alien which you could not kill? (Well I atleast never cared to waste ammo on it). I'm not sure what it's name was, but it was huge and made sounds when he ran after me.

I first saw him when I was escorting barney to a secured door to get into a driveway area. As we went by I saw 2 marines shooting some huge alien that killed them, then Barney was stupid and started shooting the alien too. I took the diversion(it was probably designed that way so I'd have a headstart) and dashed off. I saw as it chased me it tipped over a car and continued it's persuit after me. Once I got outside there was a big wall and I took some healthpacks lying conviniently infront of me and I jumped over the wall using one of those alien jump pad thingies.

Anyway, that to me is the strongest foe in the game... because there's no way to defeat it that I know of. The levels are designed so you can lure him out of your way, so I have a feeling there will be aliens like that in Half-Life 2... big strong and deadly foes that you can do nothing but run and hide from.

Striders are the kind of alien that excites me, especially when there's multiple Striders busting through buildings. It feels like a warzone, not a contained attack. A swarm of Ant Lions approaching from far off on one of the streets (since the maps are much larger) would feel like a scene from Starship Troopers, especially with the physics acting out and bodies dropping everywhere, which is the kind of feeling I like from Halo.

When you play Halo your mind goes "OMG I'M IN A WAR!" because you get that epic feeling of fighting alongside your pals. In Half-Life you were always or mostly alone, and the little backup you had was a security guard with a crappy pistol. Now there's groups of men following you or that you meet up with. This adds to the tension and excitement because as they hollar words in fear, excitement, or relief, you will feel the same way they do. Like when you first see the Strider walk by, I would be ****ing scared and start to run like hell (yes I get scared easily). That dramatic appearance and devastating show of immense power (though I pressure it's highly scripted) is enough to send me running for cover.

I hope Half-Life 2 is full of those kind of exciting momments (like I've seen in the videos) as well as the self contained events that scared the shit out of me. Take it anyway you want, but Half-Life scared me more than Doom or any other game did (mind you I haven't played System Shock and I've been wanting to...). When I first heard screams in a tunnel and blood and meat flying through it, I was instantly hooked to the game, but also shocked and scared like hell. I swear I thought things were going to bust through the walls and eat me, for such an old game it scared me more than any Resident Evil or Silent Hill. I can't wait to see what Valve has got up their sleeves to mess with my head again.

Shoot it with explosive weapons.

Dunno yet, i'm hoping the humanoid enemies are at least as smart as Halo's Elite characters in Half-Life 2.

The black crows? The ones flying around at the docks? Meh... I believe they're just a healthy dose of attention to detail.

Erm Dux, i believe right after that encounter u call in airstrikes 2 blow a hole in a wall so that u can continue.

airstrike+big alien = dead big alien :)

I suppose that was a joke... ... whatever.
I like those Striders, I'm going to have fun fighting them with my pal Barney and those scientists ! Plus the city seems full of objects and places where to hide :p

Lol. You think they'll call in an airstrike on the Stiders? :p

Actually in Halo you're just like the one-man army of Gordon in Half-Life. The difference is that in Halo you're actually fighting a whole intelligent army and also later in the game you meet up different enemies too, and then there's the moments where there's 3 different groups of enemies that you're fighting simultaneously.

And they're also fighting amongst themselves without you too... so that's what really makes it seem like a epic war.

The most daunting enemy in HL2?
The end-boss you're not supposed to see until you play it.

(For all I know it's the G-man turning into some kind of bizarre six-legged alien spurting toxics at you..)

Bosses... meh. I don't like Bosses. I'd rather have a tactical group working against me. Bossess are just so lame IMO, for the most part anwyway.

Also, I dunno I think G-man might look decieving, but maybe he's just a crazy fellow. :p

I can't really say yet... we have only been told of and seen around 8-12 enemies of hl2...

in total there is like 50+ different kinds of enemies. So i wont decide which is the most "daunting " just yet. But if i was gonna take a wild guess i'd say strider.

...however there culd be something more sinister out of those 40+ we havn't seen yet.

Halo does seem like an epic war

because there are huge battlefields with people fighting all around and vehicles and so on :D

and also, you have a couple people fighting with you

The strider I'm not scared of. Rather, I'm more scared of the huge ant lion thing in the video... It's reasonably fast, very aggressive, and just doesn't look like something that you could run away and hide behind a corner from =/

Yeah, definitely true... the Ant-Lion guards especially look really nasty.

Yeah. However, rarely in the game do you have allies with you. Only at some points.

Valve said there's 50+ different kinds of enemies? Or are you pulling that out of your butthole?

Scariest enemy I can think of......a faster, stronger, more agressive, cooler looking........SNARK! AHHHHHH! Man those things were annoying and hurt a lot! When they explode i mean =P
