What's the most frustrating game you have ever played?
Far Cry for me(checkpoints + trigens). I was playing on NORMAL difficulty.:flame:

I'd say the tail end of Far Cry where there's like 3-4 of those huge rocket guys and a bunch of invisible things on catwalks. I died dozens of times there before I finally finished it.

Stuntman.

Thread over.

Oh yeah. I remember the bullshit details you had to nail PERFECTLY.

The final 2 races of Burnout 3 were also ridiculous. You had to race PERFECTLY for a long time running boost the entire way to pass.

I can't believe there's been no mention of Operation Flashpoint, particularly the mission where your whole squad dies and you have to creep your way across a giant map with only one chance to save your game. Utterly brutal.

Defrag mod for quake3. People who've actively play(ed) this will agree.

The clear winner:

Driver 3 (refuse to call it the totally retarded 'DRIV3R')

You will cry. You will smash/kick/kill puppies. Though not only because it is the most annoying, frustrating, trial and error based game ever made. No. Because it also one of the shitiest pieces of shit ever.

Trying to find secrets in Super Mario World... I hate the forest of Illusion...

Agreed.
Hated that piece of shite.

Pro Evo 6 online, i hate losing on it, what i hate even more is when the other player gets a goal up and then starts ****ing about with it at the back with like 10 mins of game time to go, its enough to make me wanna break my window.

Operation Flashpoint had some hurrendously irritating missions too.

I dont play too many frusterating games, but SC: Double Agent can be frusterating at times, especially when you are trying to get a perfect or near-perfect mission rating.

The supertanker mission bugged me so much I resorted to shooting on sight (got -63% mission rating :P). Plus the very last bit of the last level is near-impossible to avoid detection.

For those who have never played this bitch of a game:

One of the levels (about the fourth one in; I never got past this), you had to do several chained insane things without messing up once. At the start, you had to: overtake two vehicles, dodge one semi-truck while grinding the side of a concrete barrier, slip in between two cars while in the oncoming lane, hit a corkscrew ramp through the middle of a building, drive through said building without hitting anyone, hit another ramp out of a building, land on the back of a semi-truck, reverse off, pull a 180 in oncoming traffic. After you complete all of that, you still had half a level to complete. And for the things I listed, that was done in about 20 seconds. All with a shitty 70s car that spun at the flinch of a joystick.

None of you guys know defrag then I'm afraid. Took me 64 hours to break a world record (map: afire) of 13.something seconds. Which was beaten the day after by 0.016s :frown:

Just to illustrate what defrag is about:

I'd be VERY surprised if any of the games mention top this one in difficulty or in levels of frustration.

GT4...mainly because of the penalty system.

The penalty is you can't drive faster than 30mph for 5 seconds.

You touch another car, you get penalized.
Your car is parked and an AI car hits your car, you get penalized.
Your in front and a car behind you rams into you, you get penalized.
Your car touches any car for ANY reason, you get penalized.

It's so frustrating that it's a one way street. The AI can NOT be penalized.

Battletoads or TMNT for the NES.

Most people give up at the turbo tunnel in Battletoads. The turbo tunnel is only the god damn 3rd level. Im not going to even get into the floaty bike thing, or the rat race >_>

BF2 can be pretty frustrating when you're on a death streak. Spawn in front of a tank, boom. Spawn and get bombed instantly by a jet, boom. Spawn and get tk'ed, boom. Spawn and get arti'ed, boom. Spawn and get tk'ed again, boom. Ad nauseum.

Oh true, battletoads was so hard. I've seen speedruns of that game, and the skill required to beat it that quickly is amazing!

You probably just suck at it. Driver 3 was easy. As in, abysmally easy. Then they made it even easier in Parallel Lines.

Did you play the first two Driver games on PS1? Those games were hard as nails and really ****ing good. Maybe Driver 3 was a harder than average game too, but I beat most of the missions on the first try, probably due to having already gotten so good at the first two games. Hell, the training mission in Driver 1 was harder than anything in Driver 3.

As far as frustrating, I would second Stuntman. It's about as hard as the first two Driver games, but it's just ****ing annoying. A lot of it is due to the load times, but the game would still be just purely annoying. There is an enjoyable game buried in there, but it's not worth bothering.

Gradius 5, could not even get past the first level.
Some GTA missions.
Viewtiful joe When you have to defeat 5 bosses after each other, without a safe. But with a continue at the last one(FireLeo).

Am I the only one who thought Stuntman was really fun? It was hard as hell, but still god damn fun..

Life, specifically the love part when your girlfriend decides that she wants to stop kissing and anything sex-related for no apparant reason. Yes this is directly from my Life.

The last level is a bitch.

Jak II will always have a place in my heart for being one of the frustrating games ever.
Shit yeah. Without silver weapons unlocked that mission was impossible on Black Ops difficulty...

And the "escort/ destroy the said vehicle" missions in Jak 2 were bitching, I'll agree.

Nearly every racing game I've ever played has some level where you have to do a ridiculous series of tasks culminating in a race, which you HAVE to win, or you start the whole series of events all over again. And generally you sustain so much damage doing the ridiculous tasks that it's near impossible to win the race...

You probably just suck at it. Driver 3 was easy. As in, abysmally easy. Then they made it even easier in Parallel Lines.

There's nothing 'easy' about the fact that some guy escaping in a car is able to turn onto a single road, that has no turns for quite some time, manages to 'fail the mission' because I knocked into the wall slightly. It was just very, very sloppy design (and it was too, because it's one of the worst games ever made), but make no mistake, that game isn't easy. It's trial and error all the way through. You can't suck at that thing.

Counter-Strike and World of Warcraft made me want to smash anything and everything that was around me when something bad happened.

The introduction of the Arena in WoW made my anger that much more rampant.

Thankfully I quit both of those.

Need for Speed games often had a "catch-up" AI system that was annoying as hell. You're doing a 5 lap race, and you've lead from the very start to the 4th lap, amassing a huge lead, then all of a sudden the opposition drop it into Warp 6 and beat you in a photo-finish at the checkered :|

I can't think of any more right now but if they come to me I'll post :D

some parts of mafia.

and yeah the last area in black, the one big room, jesus christ, i never get around to completing it, always got to the part with the mg turrets and got owned, jeez :hmph:

some bits of god of war on higher difficulty levels.

devil may cry 3 too.

Black was really easy, all you had to do was just fire randomly and you will eventually clear the whole room

Stuntman was hard though....

Most frustrated I've been with a game in recent memory is the final boss of Shadow of the Colossus, but atleast that was worth it.

Company of Heroes was frustrating in multiplayer, but in a good way :P

Struggling to think of any really bad games... oh, except maybe every single Atari game I had. Sure they were pretty fun, but no saves and limited continues + always being insanely hard = broken joystick. Which only added to the frustration cause YOU COULDN'T USE KEYBOARD CONTROL. I harp on about this alot, but wtf? The computer IS a freaking keyboard. How hard would that have been?

Yeah, on EASY maybe. :p

The MG nests, the heavy weapon guys pouring in and all of the RPG-wielding guys made this area a GODDAMN ****ING BITCH to complete.

One good tip, which I discovered on my first playthrough, is not to just run into the room but rather stay close to the door that you came from. Doing so will give you the opportunity to retreat into the tunnel if you're overwhelmed, catch your breath and continue. However either way you must move on in order to spawn the remaining guys which can be a bitch as it's hardly any cover you can take once inside.

ya, i did that too, the SAW was handy there but like you said once i got inside i would eventually get pwnd by the turrets, i would usually make a dash down towards the end of the room - the area where the nests appear and try and chuck some nades in there but they still would get me...

Driver 3 was good until you got out of the car. The same could be said for Driver 2. Driver was the best game for the PS1. I still play it when I go over to my Dad's. It's still just really fun.

Some of the most frustrating games are the ones you never get to play.

For example, the NES had several games produced for it that seemed to have shiny cartridges, such as gold and what not, but they never seemed to work! When I was younger I rented several of these "shiny" NES games and rarely would they work, and if they did it was even more rare that they would run well.

This was frustrating because I generally only rented one game or so per weekend, so my weekend was almost ruined if the game I rented didn't work. All I had to look forward to after a failing rented game was church and time with the family!

I was really young when this took place, so I wasn't even really involved in sports at the time yet.

I don't know if this one had poor functionality or not, I never did play it, but the games I am referencing are of this nature.
