Most Influential band/musician

This is not a personal taste poll. Please vote on which band/musician you think is the most influential of all time. What group has had the most impact on music and popular culture

I personally think that Nirvana had one fo the greatest impacts on music, NOT influential for future bands, but stopping the flood of pop and rap "music" for a while. Now Green Day are doing the same job...almost...

To me, the most influential musician on everyday life is Elvis Presley, who helped define music. The most influential musicians on other musicians, I would say are The Beatles (who basically created Rock) and Led Zep (who basically created Metal).

I voted for elvis, he set the stage for all of our music, and challenged the ideas of what is and what is not acceptable.

I'd say Frank Zappa because he will be more influential than the Beetles. I've found that you either Love Zappa, Hate Zappa, Love the Beetles or Hate Everyone and like Slipknot. I've been musically brought up by Zappa, and when I hear a Beetles song, I just think they are rather lame (musically speaking) in comparison. The Beetles were listenable to many people, but Zappa's music has that kind of 'hardness' about it that was found by the audience to Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and Varese's Deserts. So I think that Zappa will influence the next great muzischnins. I suppose Zappa's work requires a bit more thought to be understood.

I'd say you just needed to listen to more Beatles, or at least look into something about what a phenomenon they were in the sixties and seventies. At least until you can spell their name.
Personally I'd give Bob Dylan a close second to the Beatles. While the Beatles crafted what we see as popular music, Dylan did the same for the counter-culture. His influence has shown in everything from style to politics.

About the spelling, my bad *Shows Arse in Public*. I dont like listening to the Beatles. There is only one song of theirs I like and its Eleanor Rigby (I think it is anyway - the one where it starts with "Look at the lovely people" or sumping like that)

The Beatles, very influential and fantastic music. Cant think of anything else like Beatlemania. Micheal Jackson at his peak is the only one that even comes anywhere NEAR the popularity aspect of the Beatles. There was some program on recently rating songs by their singles sales or something like that, Beatles were second, Elvis was third. Cliff Richard was first. :| Someone shoot that man.

Also, Bill Baileys skit at U2 pretty much sums them up. Or "The Edge" anyway.

what's your fave stones era? personally I prefer the Mick Jones/richards era: Exiles on Mainstreet, Goat Heads soup etc

Get your YA YA's out is by far the best Live album of all time (although the Who's Live at leeds comes close) and it was recorded in a little seedy bar in my hometown after richards was busted for herione

ya I like all the classics but I've been listening to them for years ...so every now and then I like to dig up songs that arent played on the radio all that often: Sister Morphene, Star Star, dead flower etc
