Guess what the most requested item is from soldiers over in Iraq and Afghanistan....

This is an item that friends or family could mail to them to make thier lives easier... IE Beef Jerky, Candy, Game boys, deoderant, etc...

I will tell you the answer after awhile if I don't hear it first. (NO GOOGLING) lol.

LOL... No. While deployed those guys are swimming (relatively to what they normally make) in money. They have nothing to spend it on so they are all saving money big time.

Naked pictures of their wives/girlfriends :)... if not that, a letter from home or something.

Nope... Good try though. EMAIL and IM is prevalent even in the far corners if western Afghanistan.

Think of what they feel they need the most.

(BTW - My home unit just sent 19 boxes of them out)

Beer? Body armor? Better boots or clothes? Oakleys?

LOL again... They probably want beer more than anything but don't ask for it since they know they can't get it.

Boots and clothing is taken care of. Oakleys are given to them for free... (Oakley marketing)

Hookers with the contortion skills required to fit inside a UPS approved box?

:D

I'm headed to bed soon so I'll tell ya...

Beany Babies

Incase it's not universally understood they are tiny stuffed animals... The guys walking around are inundated with kids and they love beany babies...

More than Beer, Nudey Magz, beef jerky, and games boys they want to have something to give to the kids they meet.

EDIT: And if you don't believe me about Beany babies being the most requested item... Then google it.

A friend of mine was killed last Sunday. He was the Convoy Commander in charge of delivering Beans, Bullets, and Beany Babies to Tikritt from Karballa... He was my Plt leader for a couple years... 29 years old with a 9 year old son.

His convoy got through intact although 4 others from Iowa were wounded pretty badly in the blast. He was just a soldier doing his duty... Bronze star and purple heart...

I only put this up to because we're sometimes made out to be monsters.

I doubt anyone in their right mind makes them out to be monsters. They are truly heroes, especially your friend. I'm glad good men stand up to evil people, I feel horrible for his family and his friends.

I don't know how much comfort this might be, but if it makes you feel any better I would say that the majority of those attitudes come from ignorance, not outright malice.

Of course with the majority of people in the world being ignorant, I don't know how much that helps.

I still think ghost is probably right about it being naked pictures. :) But who's keeping track of that.

I have heard the same thing said from Australian soldiers. A lot of them have packed their bags full of toys to give to kids, in all of their deployments including Iraq.

Real sorry to hear about your friend Sgt. Words are inadequate I know.

And don't let the idiots get you down. I got the same thing when I said I was joining up, some of my hippy 'acquaintances' said 'You deserve to die for your beliefs, you baby killer! I hope you die in the sand you sick ****....' or something like that was what college student said to me.

But forget em. They are idiots. And the overwhelmingly bulk of people appreciate what you are doing over there, and even those who don't agree with the mission, most support the troops. Emphasis on most.....

Nope Army supplies the basics...

I'm not sure about the US army, but the UK will most likely be shipped curry sauce and some poppedoms :p

I spoke to some guys in the 101st Airbourne, and they said that they felt sorry for the UK soldiers and there equipment, and tried to give them, some of theres. But the UK soldiers said they would get in trouble for having it.

In addition, I have heard from a good source, that Australian SAS threw away their Aussie equipment in Iraq, and re-equipped with American stuff. Or at least scavenged an awful lot. The Americans were pretty happy to give them whatever they could carry, my source tells me.

Are you kidding? i have two friends who been back and forth from iraq and they tell me the british soldiers are some of the best trained best equiped troops they've ever seen.

Best trained..........I agree. Good soldiers agreed. But the 101st Airbourne guys said, paraphrased - we felt sorry for them and wanted to give them some of our equipment because there's was so crap.

.

And a sentence like that makes you .......?

Truly a heartwarming story! If only the bombs we accidently drop on a neighborhood carried a payload of beanie babies and rainbows instead of high explosives and shrapnel.

A soldiers got to do what a soliders got to do, and there's a lot of heros out there.

A lot of people just don't agree with the government administration, but they support the troops.

Send special sweets or food? Cakes?

I know people who send stuff to troops out in Iraq they know, and they send mostly: cigarettes (useful for trade) and mix CDs. The troops often get stuck with the same music, day after day.

Porn is contraband in the Australian army - i sh_t u not.

I'm sorry to hear that, buddy, we're all rooting for you guys to come home safe and sound :)

It was cool of your friend to go in the first place. That takes guts. It sucks what happened but remember, I am rooting for the rest. I want them to come home soon.

If he was really a Sgt in the army, he'd be a Seargent probably. Unless you're asking what specific kind of seargent.

It is? Did not mean to mislead anyone - it was sent to me as a UK soldier...apologies. But, still good news nonetheless!

Yeah Im just asking if hes really in the army and if so what rank. Just cause his name says sgt wouldnt mean hes only a sgt. All sgts are called "Sergant" informally.

Hmm, I woulda thought some nice SafariLand gear woulda fit the bill. :D

Hey, anyone know how easy it is to ship out gun/gun parts? Or getting your own crap? I'd much rather a G36 then an M16. :p
