C*nt. Bitch. F*ck. Ass. Shit.

Goddamnit. Tell me if you think this is fair.

My Xbox has been in for repairs twice in the last month or so for the same problem - the fan's been running unusually fast and loud, which of course indicates that the machine was running hot for some reason. Last week I got it back again, and almost immediately after turning it on it was still doing the exact same thing. However, this time I left it running for awhile to see what happened, and after maybe half an hour I got this - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907533

Now, the last time I had it sent away I was told that if it still wasn't fixed this time, I'd be getting a replacement. Fair enough, I thought, atleast it will finally be over with (for a while, atleast). Also, for frame of reference, I've already had one replacement due to a faulty disc drive and had it sent away twice for RRoD before, so needless to say I'm pretty ****ing sick of having to deal with it.

Anyway, so I call up the place I got it from (it's under extended warranty so I go through them instead of MS now). I explain to them, perhaps somewhat foolishly, that not only is the problem reoccuring (ie - the fan's still really ****ing noisy), that it's now happening to the point where it shuts off and the system says it's overheating. Oh, he says, we'll just have to talk to our repair person and see what they think. So I wait. I'm put onto someone else who doesn't seem to know anything about it and isn't much help at all. I'm put back onto the original person (wtf?). Now, he says, as far as they're concerned this is an entirely seperate problem and needs to be sent away for repair again, as they weren't aware of this last time.

WHAT.

Now at this stage I'm fuming just a little bit, but I really don't like bitching at sales people, so I try to explain to him, calmly, that I was promised a replacement if the problem reoccured, and that as far as I'm concerned this is the same problem. Anything else that's happened is just a direct result of that and would've been fixed if the repair place had done their ****ing job the first two times. No dice, it needs to be sent away and "re-examined". ****.

So yeah. Somewhat pissed right now.

Thoughts?

Once again proving that over the phone service is possibly the biggest waste of time ever.

my dad has a problem like this with HP and his laptop. . .it was pretty bad. . .

This is why I'm prolly choosing the PS3 over the 360.

Although I've heard they fixed the overheating problem in July, I believe that NOW there's some problem with disc-scratching.

Just cause the PS3 is not having any problem doesn't mean that won't in the future. Don't forget the disk read error on the PS2 which usually showed up just when your warranty runs out.

Well so far there's been nothing as serioous as the problems with the 360, so I guess my chances of getting a faulty system are lower with the PS3, which is good. As to the PS2, I've had one for about 6 years now, it works perfectly and I've never had any problems with it so I can't complain about that.

Cheers guys.

Could a mod please rename this "Xbox vs. PS3 volume 37 ololololol".

It goes... F*ck. Ass. C*nt. Bitch. Shit.

The order is key!

The PS2 disc error was solvable by moving a gear inside the PS2.

Really? Can you do this yourself? Mine's started going a bit funky with DVDs, and that's pretty much all I use it for anymore.

Cheers. I'm not bothered if it goes wrong really, it's a cheapo second hand dealie. Wasn't particularly surprised when it stopped working properly in the first place. :P

My launch 360 just got the 1 red ring a couple of days ago. Well over 730 working days is pretty good for a 360 :)

Its pretty ridiculous the amount of problems the launch 360s had, whats even more interesting is the original 360s are still in stores. Why no recall, i would presume most other industries would recall a faulty product.

X360: RRoD
PS3: Sold by idiots
Wii: No real games

Looks like the latest generation of gaming consoles suck...looks like it'll remain the Super Nintendo, PSOne and PS2 for me! :)

Let's see...

Super Mario Galaxy
Rayman Raving Rabbits
Twilight Princess
COD3
Battalion Warz 2
soon to come; Brawl~!
You lose.

I really don't get why the xbox360's RROD has been allowed to go on without some other form of compensation instead of the warranty extension. Although it doesn't seem to have hurt its popularity...

That "issue" has been there since launch and it's a really easy fix.

Don't move the console when a disc is spinning. AKA, don't flip it from horiz to vert while you're playing a game or whatever... It's common sense.

Oh, and while the 360 does work vertically, I suggest you don't for safety of your discs. This issue can be "cured" by placing a really small rubber pad in the dvd drive, but you need to void your warranty and take apart the dvd drive to do it.

OP: Yup, that sucks. I suggest getting a can of air, spraying in the 360 and get some dust out or whatever (check for faulty fan on 360 too), and also making sure 360 is really, really well-ventilated where you put it. Do NOT put it on carpet and make sure no hot appliances are below it or above it if possible. I keep my 360 on a separate shelf on my entertainment unit, with the HD DVD drive placed next to it by a few inches (not right next to it so you don't put more heat closer to the 360).

Good luck with that though... I have a launch 360 and have yet to have any issues.

Yeah I scratched a disk merely by having the console stand in vertical position. Never again.

Well, if you want to get really technical about it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBIID49cMI0

Anyway, I'm pretty much over it. Going in tomorrow to give them a piece of my mind, if that doesn't work then **** it. Next time it breaks I'm getting a refund and selling all my games to pay for a nice new computer.

Why does the guy singing say "twot" instead of "twat".

Again I am so going to take that out of context. The Wii only has imaginary games which are not to be confused with real games. Real games ofcourse can be given by an infinite decimal representation. Meanwhile for sometime imaginary games where thought to not exist.
