Motherboard Max Memory

Hey peoples! :imu:

I'm a wee bit confused , well I have an "ASROCK K7VT4A+" and was reading through the manual, cause i'm planning on getting:

2 X 512mb PC3200

And I came across this:

Memory:
PC3200 (DDR400) for 1 DDR DIMM slot, Max. 1GB
PC2100 (DDR266)/PC2700 (DDR333) for 2 DDR DIMM slots, Max. 2GB

Now...does this mean, if I'm running my memory at 3200 I can only have a GB in ONE slot ? :x , or a max of a gig in each slot but can use both slots at PC3200 :O :E

that mobo is "socket A" - you can buy PC3200 (DDR400) if you want but it will only run at the max FSB, which on this mobo is 333MHz - you would notice no performance increase over PC2700 unless you're overclocking it

Im really not sure. It wont matter anyway, it should just underclock ur memory if it only supports pc3200 in one slot.

i'm not sure if it will support 2 sticks of PC3200, i'm saying unless you're overclocking your CPU's Front Side Bus (FSB) then you won't get any better performance out of 3200 compared to 2700.

your memory can only operate at a frequency less than or equal to twice your FSB, on my Athlon64 this is 200MHz, so that means you can use anything up to 2x200MHz memory (DDR400) since DDR = Double Data Rate.

As far as i know all Socket A processors operate at a max FSB of 166MHz, with a DDR of 333MHz (PC2700 = DDR333) meaning if your memory is capable of working at 400MHz you aren't utilising all of it's available speed, PC2700 and PC3200 in your machine will run at the same frequency, 333MHz

your mobo definately supports 2x512MB sticks of PC2700, i would get that and save yourself a bit of cash unless you are going to overclock your CPU
