Hi,
I want to upgrade my mobo/proc combination.

My current specs:
ECS K7S5A mobo

AMD 2000+

2 x 512 PC-3200 ram (can't I match these somehow on a motherboard to get more out of them? I forget what it's called--not overclocking. Dual channel, maybe?)

ATI 9800 PRO

Anyways, I just wanted to know what you guys thought would be the best price/performance match for a 64 bit processor and accompanying motherboard.

Thanks for the input.

Athlon 64 3200+ on socket 939 are out or out soon, I really recommend that you take that one. Its like a 2.4c in overclock, you can overclock it to 2.5 ghz on stock cooling and it will be better than 3800+. I think it will cost about $200-$250

i just got a case and psu..
I'm torn between 2 processor/mobo setups

1) p4 3.4c with asus p4p800-e
2) AMD athlon 64 3500+ with asus a8v deluxe

I keep hearing amd is better for gaming, but from what I can see from test it's only marginal and sometimes not better at all. but the p4 will blow it away in the application stuff like encoding etc

some nice linkage http://techreport.com/reviews/2004q3/athlon64-3500/index.x?pg=2

well for that yea, but if you want it for gaming, go for the 64

Thanks everyone for their input, but I was also looking for a good price. The suggested links would exceed $400-- is there an older processor that might be less expensive but might perform as well?
