I think he made this when he was still in college, long before the actual "Mr. Bean" started.

Many lulz :p

I know I've seen this before but I can't remember where...

Heh, rowan atkinson before he lost his funny!

One thing I've never understood about about british television is that most of their shows, even popular ones, never have more then 15 episodes. Mr Bean is one of the most popular shows in history, yet they have only created 14 episodes for it. why is that?

Because unlike certain countries across a certain pond, we know when it's time to end something good ... we know when the caliber is dropping due to a drying talent pool or falling audience numbers, and we end the series ... instead of keeping the same old shows going for 15 years with absolutely absurd storylines and random explosions.

Yes, and that it's mostly one or two persons writing the scripts. Kinda hard to keep up with the American sitcom production where you have a bunch of writers stuck together diagreeing and constantly changing and whatnot.
No wonder it took John Cleese and Connie Booth four years to produce 12 episodes of Fawlty Towers.

Fair enough, but you have to admit, fifteen episodes is very slim. If your show is great it should be able to last for sesaons.

ERROOOOR ERROOOOOOOR!!! INCORRECT INCORRECT

as for why us brits only create about 2 seasons or 14 episodes worth of stuff for the good shows we put out, its because we know when to call it a day and that to carry on would be milking success until the milk becomes stale

take for example the simpsons. should've ended at least 5 to 10 years ago

Well you can't compare the Simpsons with Mr. Bean. I absolutely agree the Simpsons should of ended 5-10 years ago, but that still leaves the many years when it was in its prime (before they started bringing on celebrities every damn episode). I think Mr. Bean could of went on for a few more seasons without overdoing it.

If they had ended the Simpsons at 14 episodes, I doubt we'd remember it at all... it got really good after more than two seasons.

what is a shame is when the americans actually do churn out some genius like arrested development, it doesn't become mainstream enough because people don't 'get it' and it ends up cancelled

It all depends on what kind of humour it is. Shows like Mr. Bean and Fawlty Towers aren't fit to be longer than they are.

It is slim, but British comedies usually have relatively short showings. The Fast Show ended after 3 seasons, Blackadder after four (and, bar the first, they were all superb), even new-ish shows like Smack The Pony and Spaced were limited to two series. Half of the actors are now building on their successes and exploring new ideas rather than hashing out the same old tired jokes and storylines.

I have a tape of about 20 skits like these, which I think were all done at the same time, including some Mr. Bean ones (this one isn't mr.bean)
