MTV: Xbox 360 coming in November

Nice. I want to know when the revolution is coming.

2006 is the plan. Microsoft is the only people that are planning to launch this year (well publically... Nintendo may have pulled a fast one on us ;) )

Can't wait :) Nov. 15th... Anniversary :D

I still can't believe they massacred they term 360 by sticking it by their gay parents-oriented console.

i agree, the console companies cannot afford to keep pouring money into new consoles the way pc companies do with hardware. They wont compete even slightly. Of course, that's not what they're trying to do anyway....

He might be talking about the difference in total assets of Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. Meaning, if they decided to pull out all the stops in terms of money used in R&D and production of hardware Microsoft would have a much larger pool of money at their disposal... meaning Sony and Nintendo wouldn't have a chance to compete. Bill Gates alone is worth several times as much as Nintendo. Obviously, this isn't a feasible plan for Microsoft because it would totally **** their profit margins per console sold (unless they sell for thousands of dollars per unit) and lose them tons of money... even if no one buys the other consoles. In the end, it's all about maximizing profits.

I wonder if it'll be released in November for Europe too, or March as the XB1.

oh, woops. I could've sworn i was replying to a post that is now not there for some reason. Just disregard my ramblings.

Actually, Sony isn't at a disadvantage at all. They are the japanese equivilant of Microsoft. It's Nintendo who is going to have a really tough time. Especially since they are now dumping useless gimmicks into their game systems.

On the Forbes 2000 global rankings... Microsoft is #47, Sony is #123, and Nintendo is #708. The difference between them is that Microsoft and Sony are diversified... while Nintendo pretty much just does gaming hardware (with help from IBM, ATI, and NEC) and software. All that tells us is that Microsoft and Sony have more of a cushion for mistakes in the gaming sector. They still won't push tons of money into their gaming hardware for the aforementioned reasons. Their size just gives them more breathing room.

What surprises me the most about the three companies is that the ones with the most room for experimentation are the ones that do it the least. Nintendo, the little guy, is usually the one that pushes for change in the industry. Don't think so? How about a quick history lesson?

Sega, Sony, and Microsoft might not have adopted analog sticks if Nintendo hadn't done it with the standard N64 controller. Realizing their mistake and not wanting to be outdone, Sony quickly slapped two analog sticks on the bottom of their Playstation controller. The same thing happened when Nintendo made a Rumble Pack to fit in the standard N64 controllers. Again, Nintendo attempted to sell a large-scale storage device in a console by making the 64DD, though it wasn't widely accepted, and Microsoft countered in the next generation of consoles by building a HD into the Xbox. Nintendo was the first to experiment with true 3D in a home entertainment system... though, it was also a failure. No one has tried to steal that idea yet, but there has recently been some action with various 3D patents at Nintendo once again... whatever that means. They even designed a modem for N64 games (though it didn't get much support and never went into production, IIRC)... which would have beaten SEGA's attempt at going online with the Dreamcast if they were actually sold and implemented.

Sure, some of their attempts weren't successful but, even then, the rest of the industry noticed them and changed to compensate. Now, Nintendo is trying to bring yet another innovation to the industry and people call them "useless gimmicks"? At least they're still trying. It's fine if you want games to stay in their current form for the rest of your life... but the rest of us want fresh ideas.

Innovation, along with the amazing in-house productions, are Nintendos finest selling points. Rare would've been a third if they didn't go to Microsoft. :(

Although is it just me that thinks a purely wireless controller is a total spaz of an idea? I mean come on, you all must of have atleast ONCE played your console to the small hours of the morning... do you realy think a battery pack will last that long on a wireless contoller? And for the love of GOD it better have a rumble pack in there some where and that is sure as hell going to use the batteries up faster.

Also, theres two ways it could be done, Individual batteries like duracel or a battery pack. If its individual then batteries are going to cost a fortune in the long run, and if its a pack then you will probably have to put it in some sort of dock to charge and thus not be able to play it.

In my personal opinion it would be a great idea if it just had a USB port on the controller and one on the xbox, then you could (if you wanted) hook up the controler for "wire-filled" gaming just with a USB cable, GENIOUS! :D
