Muffled Gman convo, CASE NOT CLOSED!

heya, I’m sorry to re-open a previously locked thread but I think I’m actually getting somewhere with cleaning the audio files.

This is on the topic of the muffled conversation you hear in half-life one. I downloaded a trial program (which means I can't save or export... damnit but I will try recording via microphone what I get out of my speakers)

anyway! I broke down one of the most obvious passages the one previously recognised as
your scientist and your afraid?of what?
or
You Scientists are a fraud, Ta Ta

Well I took a really close look at the wave pattern and focused especially on that last bit. The last
Bit is obviously a word, or words of two syllables, its heavily distorted and a lot of data has been lost, however!

i believe the "TA TA" is actually "KA ER" "Kliner"

"your scientists are afraid, Kliner" this would also explain the weird way G-man says the "afraid" part.

what do you think? right? wrong? Totally off my head?

The guy he is talking to is killed when you walk past post-accident.

I hear it sort of like this...

"You scientists am afraid dada"

Hmm apparently Kleiner is the gmans father... Brings a new dimension to the family aspect of the half life universe. :D

Dont we have some guy on this board who works with enhancing sound files for a living? Who has all the right expensive programs and hardware for this.

Well I had a mega bash at sorting it out, the main problem is you can get rid of all the static, interference and crackle but the actual conversation simply isn't all there.

Its deeply muffled, like it was recorded on a poor microphone from across the room. The best we can do is clear it up as best we can and then guess and the closest words.

I can't entirely remember where the conversation to place, so I’m not sure how likely is it that G-man is talking to kliner? Also... if that were kliner what would the significance be...

Could kliner have know what would happen before the resonance cascade? Could he not be the innocent, slightly dotty, doctor we all know...?

Stil, try downloading GoldWave and using it together with your soundcard control panel's "Input" set to "Stereo Mix", and you should be able to record the sound outside of the program, as GoldWave will record whatever sound the PC plays.

GoldWave is Shareware, but you can still record and save with it without needing to register.

You don't need Goldwave to record it, just use the built-in Windows recorder.

Start>Run>sndrec32.exe>OK

Also you need to set the Recording Controls for your audio card to Wave.

Well, the settings vary from soundcard to soundcard, and I only suggested GoldWave as I've found it works with any software that I run together with it. If the basic Windows sound recorder works for you, then that's fine.

I have an Audigy 2 ZS with some very nice audio clean up features, I'll give it a try...
And can somebody tell me where this conversation actually takes place?

at the beginning of the game...when u supposed to be heading to the locker room to get ur hazard suit.
theres a room on the way which u cannot enter but u see the Gman conversing with a scientist.

hope that helps.

ya thnx

Ok...i got the file cleaned up finally.
To get it you need to sign into yahoo with this account.

Username: gman_mumble
Password: halflife2

then go here...
http://f2.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/gman_mumble

once there choose the folder called "gman" and select the file called "gman_mumble6.mp3" It will now downlaod (it's only 8kb)

I'm pretty sure he's saying "Your scientists are a fraund, Ta ta." That's the best clean up job i can do.

RUBBISH! The G-Man would never say "ta-ta" like that. Try again.

You could just extract the sound files from the .gcf using gcfscape.

Anyway, that huuuuge thread on this never got solved. Doubt it will in this one either.

did u even downlaoad the file i cleaned up and listened to it?

Theres a good reason why we're not suppost to understand what they're talking about. It doesn't matter. Don't waste your precious fragtime trying to decipher this, it won't mean anything in the end.
Now, don't get me wrong, you're doing good at your job, just your job isn't good at all.

If you really want to expand the universe, try making a mod or mapping. Expand it in your own way, so that if you're lucky, you can become part of the Halflife saga.
You'd be amazed at how often dev's will turn to fanwork to gain inspiration. Look at how Alpha Centauri's backstory was almost completely fan written.

but what if i don't feel like taking forever to do that?
and trust me, i get enough fragtime...

u don't think one day after the HL series has ended, Valve would reveal that conversation?
i think theres a chance they might...i mean they are unlike any other game dev.

I somehow think there are more important things than a muffled conversation (Which is supposed to be muffled, therefor doesn't HAVE to make sense or give much plot information away)

The "TA TA" sound at the end sounds like the voice actor having a bit of a joke, and that particular file wasn't used in the game anyway!

Seriously, it's a pretty big waste of time - they hadn't even invented the hl2 story when hl1 was made, they only knew that the gman was a mysterious man possibly linked to what was going on - which is all we knew, and all we're supposed to know at that point.

I'm into audio/music production, been doing it for about 5 years - it'll be preeetty damn hard to clean up those files enough to discern some kind of meaning, without using your imagination.

Think about it for a sec - if someone who didn't know halflife heard those, do you think they could draw ANY meaning from them whatsoever? I doubt it =\

Your minds will play a big part in trying to figure out what it says - moreso in a creative way, if you get what i mean =p

You know of course, that it's probably just entirely jibberish. Like in The Sims. >_>

The link you gave isn't working and I'm interested in what this is.

Maybe he's talking about ta-ta's.....

You know.....like boobies.

Don't ruin this thread, like the old one. Some people spammed in it and bumbed it. Then the mods were forced to close a great thread :(
