I was just thinking about HL2's multiplayer and at the same time about HL2's AI and it just hit me.

Wouldn't it be cool if you could make an multiplayer game/server that's actually the single player campaign but where someone plays Gordon (the guy who made the server would be fair) then people who want to add to the experience join in.

They can play the part of the enemy AI (ie. combine soldiers, ant lions, etc.) but only enemy AI that could hurt Gordon.

These people spawn where real combine soldiers would spawn in SP and then when they are idle they can see through Gordon's eyes so the people don't get bored if there isn't any action for them.

Just a cool Idea for the HL2 multiplayer.

You mean, like... co-op? :p

yeah, i spose that could be cool, but i dont think that would happen. It would get annoying to play the AI cos gorden would have to be made extremely hard to kill. After all there is only one of him.

AND before u sugest CO OP look up sven co op

Strider match!! Strider match!! Sssssssteeeerrrrrrriiiiiideeeerrrrrr!!!
Match. :E

no he doesnt because in co-op you dont play the actual SP game

Hey, yeah, biy would that be fun, waiting on level 13 in my giant fortress of doom for Gordon to play through levels 1-12 before getting to me.

You make the AI guyz have like 10-20 HP and they spawn where SP combine would spawn.

I would love to play an enemy AI because there are endless possibilities.

Yes you do, you can play co-op single player, actually most of the games have co-op in single player.

Problem I see is about the life duration of ex-NPC player...
And the same with Gordon.
Hummm...Why not a queue systeme for Gordon's possibles player ???
Modders would have to check the idea...
In fact I'd love to play this sort of game...

I doubt it will be possible to have that kind of co-op out of the box with HL2. Besides Sven has already taken the project under his wing.

This type of multiplayer could exist. Think about the counterstrike maps where you have to protect that one dude. You could sort of do the same thing, you might not be able to play just any part of the singleplayer campaign, but parts where you fight alongside other NPC's (like in the one part of the 600 MB vid), these could be replicated for a multiplayer experience. Some would be combine soldiers and others could be Gordon and the friendly NPC's.

What you could do is make it so that the combine/alien/whatever kill gordon and then replace him so that they get a chance to rather then just the creater (only letting the creater be Gordon would be unfair on us poor sods with crap computers)

Hold on, what makes this different from regular deathmatch? Or you mean everyone teams up against 1 player?? I don't get it.

Sounds like Perfect Dark's Counter-Op to me.

Well you could say any game with co-op... Halo, Serious Sam, S.T.A.L.K.E.R etc., etc.

Doesn't mean it will not be unique though... it's a different game.

Actually this idea sounds more like a rumor about Halo 2 multiplayer, where people could actually play as any character they want through the single player game online with everyone else instead of against the A.I. But it's only a rumorso far.

[edit]

I deleted information which you will never know, as I have the power to give knowledge and to take the same knowlwdge away as I please!

yeah they did that in Perfect Dark on N64....it was a great idea but poorly implemented...cuz after alot of deaths the enemy player would end up on the other side of the map and get really bored...and thats not to mention the fact that the enemy player dies really quicky.

Capture the gordon - ctg

You play as a strider, and you gotta catch that little, fast running orange thing hiding between those big buildings. You can use your weapon to blow the squirmy thing out of its hiding place, but beware - do not kill him at all costs...

perfect dark really had that semi co-op game mode?
I actually always thought the mines-only match ruled all other modes.

How about this: There is one gordon, anyone else who connects to the game has FREE ACCESS to control ANY of the AI enemies. (AI controls them when there's no person controlling them) Headcrabs, zombies, anything. They can change to another enemy at any time, and if they die, they go to a different one. The gordon character only knows how many people he's up against, not what they are controlling. To the gordon player, it would be just a much more interesting single player experience, and to everyone else, it'd be fun coming up with cool ways to surprise and kill gordon :) Obviously balance would be an issue, and there'd have to be some kind of scoring to keep the competitive multiplayer players happy, but that could all be worked out after the fact. I just think this would be a really cool multiplayer mode (best suited to lans or fast connections though, considering the amount of enemies and stuff that would lag down the servers)
