"Rock megaband sends its millions of listeners to Alex Jones’ websites"

Infowars.com said:
Alternative rock megaband Muse have urged their millions of listeners to take the “red pill” and reject the babylon system of mindless popular culture and meaningless music – by inviting people to visit Alex Jones’ Prison Planet.com and Infowars.com via links on the band’s official website.

...

As we have previously documented, music and popular culture is the most powerful weapon the elite wield in keeping the masses distracted, dumbed down and morally bankrupt. Amoral, vacuous and nihilistic drivel from the likes of Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna and Katy Perry keeps young women obsessed with meaningless drivel while thinking that it’s mandatory to dress and act like a whore to be accepted by their peers, while the endless parade of moronic hip-hop artists, people like Puff Daddy, Kanye West, Jay-Z, 50-cent and Lil Wayne brainwash young men into thinking that acting like a superficial, moronic, money-obsessed, sex-obsessed thug who wears their pants round their knees and treats women like pieces of meat is cool.

Can I hate them for being so f*cking typical, but also love them for promoting the questioning of government?

You are now on the same level of conundrum-ism as I.

not quite show what to make of this. it's like two hates crashing towards each other; bad music journalism/writing in general, and bands like muse that i find to be overrated, derivative and - as the article says - nihilistic drivel. god that's a great word - nihilistic. thanks, shitty journalism.

am i being fickle here in thinking that there's something horribly one sided with what's trying to be said here by saying it's shitty that bands we don't like are using a public platform to promote things we don't care about, and then a band we do like using it's public platform to promote something we do like... ? i mean i know there is obviously more to care about here and that makes sense, but really i think that's just the articles bias that's the problem here. perhaps i'm just too tired to think this through.

see you in the morning hl2net

this is true

hardcore punk has been questioning government since the late 80's

I think it was more "Hey this band won a bunch of awards (Hence being a little more 'popular' than hardcore punk etc) and they want to promote my website/cause so I'll write an article about it" sort of thing.

I will follow in the trend of occasionally making music and questioning government

Government!?

Government, are you...? Really, government?

Anyone else find it amusing that you can actually observe Muse gradually going down the shitter as their lyrics became more transparently political? I think the turning point for me was watching a live performance of theirs where they do a song about soldiers dying and freedom and whatever, and Matt introduces it by saying "this is for all our unsung heroes!" Just... think about that for a moment, if you will.

Ah well, not like they have any integrity after that Twilight video.

I don't see how this is any new, pretty much every generic nu-metal/emo band has songs to complain about government.

Muse's music is great, but meaningful..!? No.

I could easily call Muse's music meaningless drivel as well. Am I really going to take everything they say seriously? No. Their music is an escape and nothing more to me.

I can't even remember any of their lyrics. Muse is like a binge band for me. I'll listen repetitively for several hours like "Hey this is awesome!" and then I'll get so sick of it I can't listen again for years.

Awe, just when I got in to that "float on" song as well as some of their other older stuff. Now every time I listen to them I'm gonna have to throw up in my mouth a bit. Shit.

Too true. Origin of Symmetry was their best album anyway. They'll probably say they did the Twilight theme to appeal to a wider audience.

dude, don't ever, EVER, got modest mouse confused with muse

modest mouse actually have something interesting to say with each and every album and they don't have to tie any of it to political overtones to try and get a point across.

Megaband is a little generous isn't it?

I mean, if you compare them to U2, RHCP etc regardless of taste they are a pretty small deal IMO.

Clearly Muse is in kahoots with Big Pharma, those sheeple.

i dunno, muse are pretty big. U2 and RHCP are known as stadium bands, muse have been doing stadiums for a few years now i think. i'm not sure, i don't follow them really but i know they're renowned as pretty big.

I just think you have to draw the line somewhere, and they've been around since i was at school.

I could name 10 bands that are bigger - put it that way, this is probably stating the obvious, as it's clear that the article is massively overstating the importance of them IMO.

All of that and I actually like muse. You don't wanna see what i say about bands i don't like.

Anyway, that's enough bollocks for me to speak on the subject.

well yeah, there are bands that are obviously bigger but there are also **** tons of bands that are just generally big. muse are one of those. either way, it's not massively important and it's impossible to define who is the biggest, i just don't think it's unjust to say they are a big band right now. as the article says, they've sold 10 million records worldwide and won a ton of awards.

An excerpt from their song Exo-politics:

Open skies over me,
I have waited patiently,
I wait for a sign.

As conspiracies unwind,
Will you slam shut,
Or free your mind,
or stay hypnotised.

When the zetas fill the skies,
Will our leaders tell us why,
Fully loaded satelites,
We'll tell you nothing but our minds.
Yeeeeeah somehow I'm surprised they didn't promote Alex Jones years ago. Guess they were just waiting to get mega-popular so they wouldn't get mega-ignored.

Megaband is a little generous isn't it?

I mean, if you compare them to U2...
I know, they haven't even written their own Spiderman musical.

All this and they still play opening for U2 concerts.

Yeah, you cant much more political than U2. Then again, I cant think of a band that is better than U2.

Although I do love Muse and want to see them live, as apparently their live shows are pretty much unbeatable. And I saw their performance of Where The Streets Have No Name at Glastonbury this year.

When The Edge came out on stage I went ***king nuts, and when he started the intro my head exploded.

Holy crap that seriously sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it.

Arguably the 2 greatest bands in the UK alive today combining to play arguably the greatest British song of all time. It got the greatest response from the crowd all night.

At first this took me by surprise, and then I realized it wasn't surprising at all.

Well, there goes any shred of respect I had for that band. Admirable to question government, but far outweighed by the stupidity of doing so by watching some addlebrained Alex Jones "documentary".

what the ****

anyroads, U2 are a political cash cow

I missed out get.

''You can get much more political than U2'', so I was agreeing with a previous statement.

And I beg to differ about them being the best band. They're certainly up there with the biggest, Im sure their tour sales, attendancies, band-start-date and almost unanimous love for them the world over will stand for that argument.

Almost every album they come out with is a smash in sales, and they just keep getting better with every album.

I cant think of a single ''crap'' album from U2.

Joshua Tree is just biblically epic.

welp thank god sales and size don't constitute to how good a band should be so we'll just ignore that part of your argument. if you like them, fine, but just because they've sold such and such or got good press from popular media means squat. on the contrary, in the circles i familiarize myself with, U2 are scorned generic radio rock with a egotistical jerkoff for a singer. works both ways innit

but let's keep this to just about muse

I always love a good ham-fisted cringe-worthy political message in music.

Bands: stop putting retarded politics in your music, focus on the music itself please.

A couple of my friends thought their live show was awesome (one of them saw them more than 5 years ago though).

But I watched a video on youtube once and personally hate all the theatrics, and sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who does. It seems gimmicky to me. And not just Muse. I read about Flaming Lips shows and it makes me cringe a little.

Crowd surfing in a hamster ball.

Nuff said.
