I'd like to create some music for a potential mod. I have bucket loads of musical talent, can play piano violin guitar bass and most other things (except brass). I'm wondering how people generally go about making music, like do you use trackers? perform live? Live isnt really an option without buying some mic's, so i'd want to use some software. Can you recommend any? Any tips would be great :)

the best thing u can do is get one of those things, I really can't remember what they are called which don't help. but they work on smart cards. You inset a mic/guitar into it and record, normally they act as effects prossesors as well. I dunno much, but it would proberly be a good diea to get a good sound card as well. Hmm.... thats about as much as I can help. I play guitar but never bothered recording.

Full software there are programs such as FruityLoops or ACID which let you make songs from scratch. If you are like me and have a Yamaha Motif 8 you can hook it up to your comp and use other programs such CuBase, nTrack Studio, CakeWalk, etc. to do combos. The Yamaha motif also has sampler capabilities, so you might want to get it if you are serious about music, its only $4000 XD

Use eMagic Logic! It's ****ing GREAT!!!! And don't get scared since it's eMagic, because it'll rock your panties! I've just received a shitload of plug-ins and I've just made a symphony. It's a really professionel program and as soon as you learn the basic steps then you'll be rolling in minutes!!

Cubase SX, the most powerful software for music recording and mixing. And buy at least Audigy2 Platinum ex, although it's a bad compromise. You'd better try to get Terratec's Phase26 if i remember right or a RME's DIGI98/PAD (or something like that).
