Do you play an instrument? Are you in a band? Do you have anything to do with music (ie - recording, producing)? Post your experience/equipment/credentials/whatever in here.

I'm a drummer of about two years. Just a hobbyist at this stage but I'm really getting into it. My new kit gets in mid-October, a Pearl Export (mid range kit, definitely not for beginners but nowhere near top of the line).

Your turn :)

I was thinking of getting into drumming (or bass). It just seemed like great fun. :D But drum kits seem to be ridiculously expensive, so I don't know...

Heh, I'm hijacking the thread from real musicians.

I work with sampling, mixing and DJing digitally. I use pretty much every program there is, Cubase SX, Cool Edit Pro, DSS DJ, Reason and etc.

I mainly do triphop, but I'm not going for anything specific, trying to fuse jazzy stuff with hiphop beats and such.

I'll post music when I get something decent together.

I've taken up guitar lessons. Not that good at the moment but im working on it :p

It's my opinion that any musician should experiment a little before getting into lessons. If you don't enjoy the instrument to some degree beforehand, lessons will probably become boring unless you have an instant connection with the instrument. This is my experience, anyhow. I took guitar lessons right off the bat a few years back and while it was interesting for a while it got boring having to take in so much new information, and having so little time to put it all into practice and have some fun with it. I started drums pretty much out of the blue, a friend of dad's left his old kit at our house, and this was shortly after I left school and had nothing else going on. I've had no formal lessons and people are pretty impressed with how far I've come on my own, but I'm now at a stage where I'm progressing too slowly, and while I'm right into finding things out on my own, that can only go so far. A teacher is an invaluable source of information, experience and support, but only if you're ready for it.

And yes, drum kits are bloody expensive. I was lucky to have access to one for free before I could afford to get my own. The Pearl Forum is a decent beginners kit at a reasonable price, but if you stick with it you'll quickly outgrow it. The Export is the next step up and comes in at the price of a decent guitar or bass for snare, bass, three toms and hardware. On top of that you'll need a basic cymbal pack and a throne and you'll be set. The coolest part about drums is how customisable they are, you can constantly be adding new things and fine tuning your setup, it's such a personal thing.

Yeah, I'm saving for a real turntable to have my own little place for creating music, digital mixing and etc may be very customizable and such but there's nothing like having a turntable in the corner of your room and doing stuff that way..

Hah. I used to play the piano. I sucked at it. I'm pretty sure I could do a stand-up-comedy show just playing the piano. (Maybe wearing a funny hat)

I produce some electronic music using Reason and freeware Softsynths / Sample collections... Mainly Techno & Trance.

<shameless ad>www.mp3.de/privatepanic</shameless ad> ;)

Tell me if you like the stuff if you want :)

Additionally, I made some orchestral music for a MMORPG that's being developed at the moment - www.cyrin.de, the tunes by "Feorim Tearshald" are mine (That's my nickname there).

I learned to play the violin from the age of 9 until the age of 15, then played keyboards in our school-band and started the MIDI producing business ;)

Now I use mainly software because all the wires and stuff are too much of a hassle to me :)

I play the guitar, I've been playing for a year and I've got a fender.

I've been playing guitar for 7 years. (I am 15) I have a Schecter 006 Elite, and a Marshall AVT100. I've been in a few bands. I find it really hard to find good musicians that are actually interested in being in a band and not fooling around while having a practice. I've been writing Trance/Hardcore on Fruity Loops for two years. I'm actually pretty good, but metal is my main thing.

I play the guitar, bass, and some piano. My skills are pretty good, although they`re nothing to brag about, but they work in a band situation. I mostly write stuff though, not a lot of practicing. I`m mostly in to rock, but I love classical music as well as electronic stuff such as Air.

I use an Ibanez AXS32 with a K.A Motherbucker, which basically is 2 humbuckers in one. The other pickup is the neck pickup that came with the guitar. This goes into a cool distortion/fuzz pedal made by a guy called Zachary Vex. Really ****ed up stuff. It can self-oscillate so that it creates a weird siren sound, besides the cool 70`s fuzz tones. After this the signal goes into a Digitech Whammy (WH4 midi version), which is a pitch shifter/harmonizer. Very distinct stuff, listen to RATM/Audioslave and Tom Morello. The signal then goes into a E.H Big Muff which is also a distortion pedal. This leads into a tremolo pedal, and finally into a Boss GE7; equalizer pedal for tone adjustment. Then, the signal gets split in two. One goes into a small trans-amp with a Boss GE7 in front of it (this is for treble stuff), and the second goes into a 30W old tube bass amp, for mids and bass. The sound is awesome, but I`m looking into getting a real tube amp soon.

I play guitar and piano. Been playing guitar for about 8 months and piano for about 8 years.

Right now I have a Squier Strat, Ibanez S470FM, and a Peavey Classic 50. I'm buying a Carvin DC200 and trying to sell my Ibanez because I don't use the Floyd or middle pickup enough.

I write lyrics and attempt to sing.
I'm in an odd band called the Stationary Shop Boys - http://www.freewebs.com/sinister_witches (featuring me in a top hat) and http://www.soundclick.com/thestationaryshopboys
We are basically a duo, my friend Dan being the real talent and me bossing him around and adding my strange humour.
I would like to do serious music at some point too, but for now it's easiest to the Stationary Shop thing and I love Dan's guitar playing, so I wouldn't want to miss out on any opportunities to work with him.
I also play guitar, kinda, I used to play it quite a bit, but now I barely play it at all, only on the odd ocasion to play something badly and then it sits and collects dust again.

I listen to metal (all kinds, everything from speed to technical to heavy)

I play a Jackson JS20, and I've been playing for a lill over a year. I'm getting a Jackson Kelly KE3 VERY VERY soon.

I play piano, percussion, and clarinet. Piano is my main instrument and I've played with jazz bands & combos, played for a few musicals, do some solo stuff (in school now, not enough time), and helped a few of my composer friends out for their recitals, reading sessions, and film scores. Percussion I played in high school marching band, drum corps (front ensemble), and concert bands. That is until I got completely sick of concert band percussion parts and learned clarinet, which I like a lot but haven't really done much with.
I also compose music, but not enough recently. I was pleasantly surprised to find one of my works get some radio play, though.

I like all kinds of music, but especially: jazz, progressive rock, fusion, latin (not pop-latin), classical (especially modern tonal works), show tunes (especially Sondheim), some types of folk, groups that do weird things.

Oh, I consider myself a decent singer as well.

I play piano. I've had lessons for a really long time, then decided that since I wasn't really practicing much anyways I'd just quit the lessons. I can do accompaniment for violin, did accompaniment for cello before, and played for middle school orchestra. And now I play for church and do accompaniment for singing and stuff like that.

I'm a singer and guitarist for 4 years now. I got into both of them right at my 12th birthday when I got my first guitar. Singing is my passion. I get to jam with my bro's band since they don't have a singer and it's awesome. I can't play guitar and sing at same time... too frustrating, but I'll learn it some day. I hope to someday start my band that has been on the verge of having "a practice" for about 4 months now...lol (I bet alot of you know how that is). Now we are missing a drummer and a bassist. So help me god.

lets see...
i play most of the traditional instruments (piano, guitar, drums ect)...
i do vocals as well..

right now i am a 1member band.. like NIN... eh, simmalar music.

Guitar, been playing for about 3-4 years now, don't have any good guitars atm but getting an Epiphone LesPaul Standard soon :)

:) Me and a couple of friends have decided we want to create a band! Haha, we're stupid. I have no experience w/ instruments whatsoever! I say I want to play bass! We're going to be called SBU - School Boy Unit(or Union)

It's always fun to goof off and jam with mates when you have no idea what you're doing :D

Won't you be short of instruments though?

I played drums for 1 year when I was 12 years old but I got tired. Now I'm planning of buying a new drum.
