That's like mixing fire and water together. The two collide, then they sort of, umm, "cancel" each other out!

So that means "Agree to disagree" , in this case... the two different ideals collide and they both cancel out. Making it a pointless argument... therefore you and your room mate are losers.

Well, in the eyes of your room mate because he said it, but, you did not agree with that...

So, that means... if you didn't "agree to disagree" and the two arguments didn't cancel out, that means you somewhat respected his ideal!
