hi sorry this may sound dumb but i was wondering if you could help me compare performance/quality,

im running an athlon 2700 (2.1gh, 333fsp)
with 512mb or ram (333/400mhz i forgot which :)
and an MSI radeon 9800 pro 128mb (256 bit memory interface)

it will only run farcry on medium settings and can just about streach to putting water on high, any other high settings cause it to slow down when you lead startsto fly.

it runs planetside terribly (even on the very lowestsettings) when ever i meet the enamy and people start shooting

I have noticed that my card shows up in display propertise as a 9800 XT even though its only a 9800 pro

can you tell me your specs and comment on how well your computer runs these two games?

Did u install the driver. ? latest driver ?

Someone gave you the wrong installation, and or you're using a 9800XT and not knowing it.

lol if only, the trouble is it is the same file what ever radeon you have its the same one i had my 9200 running on.

someone said something earlier about downloading the third party drivers and it will run better

so if its sapphire download the sapphire drivers

No....

You might have one of the MSI 9800pros that were built with 9800XT cores... might be able to flash it to get slighly better performance....

make sure that you uninstalled your old drivers, and installed the 4.7 cats fom www.ati.com (Driver Cleaner is a good proggy to clear old drivers)

Make sure you have Vsync off.

Might it jsut be a ton of lag in planetside?

Personally as an alternate driver I would download DNA Drivers. I only used them when DX2 ran like crap on my 9800 Pro and I got an extra 10fps using that driver, but they have not come out with a new one for a while.

your comp should run far cry on highest settings quite well

No FarCry is deciding to be a complete whore when it comes to most ATi cards....

Actaully my brother runs Far cry on very high settings with a 9600XT @ 1024x768 with a FPS ranging from 30 - 40. The patches are horrible though, screwing up the performance a lot - for every ATI user.

I myself am able to run Far cry on my 9800 pro at about 30-40 FPS at 1280x 1024 with AA and AF on.

What's your setup?

Well when I run my card @ 1024x768 with 4xAA and 8xAF full detail I got about 60-70fps, and 1280x1024 same with everything I got about 50-60

Now the patch came out, in MP I can't pull more than 50fps...and it crashes for no reason sometimes....Then I learned about they developed the game on pirated software...so you know what I probably think

I would suggest the same thing as I posted in another thread , 3dmark 03 .
If you post benches with your initial question it will allow others to help you identify problems and suggest solutions more quickly.

Good luck.

Oh, I know, do you have Vsync turned on? I don't know if Far Cry has the option to turn that on in game, but if you go to you card's control panel there might be an option in there forcing vsync. Can you run other games well? Because it's probably because you have vsync on in the game. Set it to No vsync.

actualy the thing im mostconsered with is the terrible performance on planetside, how should planetside run on my comp, and how does it run on yours?

Hopefully this helps. Do you use 3DMark 03? If so with my Pentium 4 2.4 Hyper Threading (Running at 2.7), 1 gig of DDR 400 RAM and a 9800 Pro I get a score of around 6000. In games like Far Cry I can run it with about 40fps with all detail on high except shadows which suck up a lot of power.

I beleive it's limited by your CPU. I have a AMD64 3000+ and run Far Cry @ 1280x768 around 40FPS with my 9800 Pro.

And btw, HT doesn't help with anything ATM besides the few apps that use it. Half Life 2 won't support it and I doubt any other game does either.
