currently i am running:

athlon xp 1800+
gf4 ti4400 128mb
512mb pc2700 ddr

on september 20th i am buying a new computer. so far, here are the specs:

pentium 4 3.0ghz
radeon 9800pro 128mb
1024mb xms corsair pc3200
thermaltake xaser III (6 80mm fans :D )
thermaltake 420w psu

any suggestions? about cooling needs or anything? should stock fans be enough? it seems with a radeon 9800 pro and pentium 4 in the same computer, things could get a little hot. should i buy a hard drive cooling system? any other suggestions welcome :D

Nice upgrade. I would reccommend getting a good HSF for the 3.0C. TT Spark 7+, Vantec aerflow, and if you intend on OCing(not that much with a 3.0) get a zalman 7000-Cu. You dont need HD cooling, there is almost always 2 front fans that blow on the HD slots.

what case? what soundcard?

and how much did it cost u.

Hey can someone help me? I'm looking for cooling fans: one for the cpu and another one to strap at the back or maybe front of the case.

I read about the Zalman 7000cu and I'm probably going to get that one for the cpu, but I don't know about the other one.

i'm using the xaser III 2420 something. it's the white xaser III :)

the whole computer costs around 1700. that's including the case, monitor, hard drive, etc.

as for the sound card, i have a crappy 16mb pci card. i'll probably upgrade eventually, for now i don't see the reason to have a high end card.

thanks for the info. i've looked at the spark 7 and some other hsf on newegg. they seem pretty loud, but i don't really mind, i'll be wearing headphones anyway :)

i haven't looked at the zalman heatsink. any links?

How bout video card coolers? Anyone got good suggestions? I hear the pci fans are really loud so i dont think id want them but im curious incase my 9800pro gets hot. ( though it shouldnt, i have 4 fans including a side fan)

You shouldnt really need to get one. But anyway, the vantec iceberq is probly the best choice.

Yuch a Xaser. I so hate those awwfull pre modified cases. Get up your lazy ass and modify one yourself. Everyone has a window in his case nowadays. its redicilous.

Here are the specs

P4 2.2
1GB DDR PC2700
GF4MX440

I can't remember the HD and the MB specs.

i was gonna get a window in mine but they jacked up the price so i had to scrap it.

This is what im getting- nice, simple, high quality.

Jim's Case

Yeah. a chieftech. one of my favorite cases and nice and strong also. Perfect airflow, this is a case everyone should buy!

Nah, you dont need something fancy for that. I reccommend a Coolermaster aero 4+.

Muahhahaha I got the most pre-modded case you can buy. Kingwin KT436. I just wouldnt want to mod a case.

I think a modded case is either somthing you go all out on, or dont do at all. If you just useing your rig at home for you and anyone else at your house i dont think its needed. But if you goto a lot of tourny's and lan parties that i think your case should look cool as hell :afro:

Hey, that's the exact comp I have now! Take it from me root, you DEFINATELY need cooling lol. My comp is 53c cpu and 42c mobo temps on regular load. Then again you have 6 fans, I have 3.

i shouldnt have any problems with heat....

As of friday my case SHIPS with 2 back fans and 1 side fan. After i get everything set i wil get the temps (and post em hear of course  ) If they are too high ill have to order a front fan. I have a Vantec aeroflow so my cpu shouldd be just fine.

Oh yea, my basement is ice cold :borg:

you're right!!!!!!!! anyone who did not put in their own window IS TEH SUXXX!!!!!!! LEETER THAN ME R U!!!!!!!111
i should buy the version without a window so that i can put in my own worse looking window for even more money!!!!1

ahem. anyways.
i like the front of the case, and the fact that it has six (actually seven.. well, eight counting the cpu fan). i have seen the performance of these cases is extremely good, because a local lan center uses them on all of their computers.

i'm not so much of a mod guy anyways. i'm more of a scrim too much don't have time kind of a guy.

You say its about 1700 for all those specs. Where are you buying it from.

Err that is right. I had almost the same exact system for $1700 on newegg, but i also had a bunch of extra goodies, wireless G networking, accessories for the case, etc.

The word beautiful is used in this topic's title. But you may not have realized that beautiful is just one of the few tripthongs in English lanuage.

Sorry EVIL, but that is seriously the dumbest thing I've ever heard you say. Even for you that's a pretty stupid thing to say. Why would you buy an unmodded case and spend more money doing it yourself and making it look shittier? Not to mention I'm getting the same case (except mine is silver) and it's a sexy beast.

my standard dell dimension case is sooooo beautiful :p

that's exactly what i was thinking :\

thermaltake cases are very high quality. the xaser III series is excellent.

and mine is silver too :D

You said white but ok. :) Silver is teh sexeh.

I can't afford one lol. I'm flat broke after buying this case and the alpha PAL cpu HSF. However if you know any for dirt cheap I buy one.:)

hmmm... anyone think i should replace the stock case fans? they look pretty crappy (i think i read 10CFM at 30dB!). if so, what fans? they're all 80mm. would vantec tornados be worth the noise? if not, what else?

YOU CANT AFFORD ONE???? you cant have a Xaser case with a window without a cathode!!! There like $10 just steal it from your mom!

Dude dont waste $80 on that! Keep the fans you have now on your case, but get a quality LED fan. You dont need the smart fan, theres plenty of others that are cheaper and cool better.

Or, leave the case fans unless they really do suck. My case will be arriving next week, if they're shitty, I'll tell ya.
