hey all, newbie question here

I've gone into my config.cfg file like 3 times and added the line

cl_showfps "1"

and the first time I play HL2, it shows the fps. but the next time I play, it's gone and I have to go into the console to enter the command again.. is there a way to make it save permanently?

Add the line to your config.cfg file, which should be hiding in your hl2\cfg\ directory. The same process should work for just about any command.

semi psychotic, did you read what he said?

apparently not.

I'm getting the same problem, and I don't really want to make it read only in case I need to change anything.

Should work by adding it in autoexec.cfg, if you don't have one you can create it.

same thing happens to me on ragdoll_collide. I just need to get off my lazy ass and add it to my autexec :(

Eek! I could have sworn that he posted that he added it to the console. Sorry about that.

Anyway, what would happen if you set the config.cfg as a read-only file? I'll go ahead and test that right now.

Yeah, it seems all cl_ commands don't want to save. I'll try adding them to a autoexec.cfg, and I'll report back with results next time I play.

Setting it to read-only keeps the entire CFG intact. However, this also means that the only way to change it is to edit it from Windows after setting it as a read/write file.

Just add "+cl_showfps 1" (no quotation marks) to the launch options, under the properties of Half-Life 2 in the "play games" window.

use net_graph 3 (or 1, 2)

that always stays until you type net_graph 0

cool thanks all -- what's the ragdoll physics setting thing do?

Yup, net graph 3 is the best one.. if you just wanna see your choke and fps.
