Sounds a bit expensive... But mostly that's the monitor and 9800, so I guess its validated. And I would guess you can get a more powerfull AMD CPU for cheaper price (dont ever ASSUME to overclock to specific ranges).
(example, a 2800+ costs $288, not far from your 2.4. And a 2500+ costs 143, MUCH cheaper. Not to mention you'll get a CRAPLOAD better onboard sound with an Nforce2 board)

Those can't be American prices. I only paid $170 for that exact cpu.

Anyway nice computer.

Yeah, I was thinking about AMD, but the 2500. I'm not an audiophile or anything, This is the only upgrade I will be getting for awile. (Being that i'm 16 and have a crappy job)Almost all if not all 2.4C can be overclock to at least 3.0GHz, easy matter of changing the FSB from 200 to 250 which the IS7 does quite well. Plus the 865PE are rumoured to be able to support the upcoming prescott's.

Well, if you have a crappy income you'll want it to last right? Then a overclocked system (NOW, overclock it for shit in 2-3 years!!) is not good. You can get a 2500+, 8RDA3+ and a Sapphire 9800 Pro for roughly the same price as that I think.

Buddy, i'm not trying to sound like an Intel Fanboy but they're faster then AMDs.

Also, raising the FSB does not hurt the CPU, since I am not changing the Voltages it doesn't matter.

Lol, of course it matters! You are stressing the CPU more than it is designed for (and especially the mobo).
And I dont advocate for an AMD either, its just that they are cheaper, you can get a faster AMD at the same price of a slower Intel. I've seen people clock 1700+ to 2.2ghz (and thats from 1.5ghz or something, I dont know the exact number)

Its no stress on the CPU unless you increase the voltage.

like he said.

Depends on how one define stress. At any rate, what it will stress is the mobo... Need really good cooling on it.

And I still dont see the need for stressing it by overclocking it now... Its to expensive to be a cheap overclocked computer anyway :)
Amd now when I think on it: "easy matter of changing the FSB from 200 to 250 ", I thought it had a 800 (400) mhz FSB? Or maybe I need to read up on computers, hehe, it was 7 months ago I bothered with it...

it has 200 FSB , but its Quad pumped to 800 as the AMD is duel pumped from the more recent 200 to 400 or 166 to 333.

the 200, 250 is the actaul speed

the 800 and 1000 are just for marketing

they are based on the"quad pumped" bus hence 200x4 = 800mhz fsb

and over clocking to 250 would be 250x4=1000mhz fsb

A quad pumped bus is a bus where four signals can travel per clock cycle

Ah. Well, I didnt buy a 800FSBer when I bought, a computer, I bought a 2400+, cost less than half, and you loose very little speed (which mostly gained back by the SoundStorm chip in games).

Its your choice, I just think its unwise to assume everything will be so ok when overclocking. But I dont care of what you do.

its true that in a mid range system i would (and have) go AMD

but in the high end.....Intel is clearly ahead in both speed and price.

like NJD2003 is trying to do.....

I can build a p4 2.4c based system for about 900$(american) (without case, monitor, keyboard, mouse and gfx card. I have that stuff)

That can be overclocked easily to beat a 3200+ by far and even a 3.2 with nothing but a good aftermarket cpu heatsink(it can be done with a stock cooler to).

A 3200+ based system would cost me about 1100$ ....and would be noticably slower.

Edit:eek:verclocking 2.4c= ive read a dozen reviews that this is perfectly safe and that the systems it was done on were 100% stable at speeds between 3 and 3.4 ghz depending on your ram and mobo setup.

As I said, my experiences are old.
The fastest was like a 2.6ghzer which costed around $600 or something :)

How far can one overclock a 2800+? Just to compare.

I know my current CPU can overclock to around 250mhz. Clockspeed that is, not FSB, long live the PII!! :p

Im honestly not sure..

But im sure a few minutes of googling will tell me :)

hmm ive seen someone say as high 2583 ....but im not sure what kinda cooling that is....its sounds pretty damn high to be air cooled.

Fast googling shows the 2500+ can clock to 3200+ levels... The 2800+ is apparently NOT a good overclocker. However, the 2500+ is nearly HALF the cost of the 2.4c. Is it worth the extra for the 2.4c? Well, maybe, the FSB helps alot I suppose.
Edit: Found a 2500+ clocked from 1.83 to 2.87Ghz! MAN! That's like a 3600+ (more like 4000+) or something :)

I still dont think its quite as fast as the pentium.....and there is no way thats with air cooling.

True, true... Wasnt any benchmarks, just a note on it. I forgot to read the settings, got to find it again :)

"During testing with a quality aftermarket heatsink, this processor was able to be overclocked to the same performance levels as the latest Athlon XP 3200+ processor" from a reviewer.

The cpus that was really clocked high (3.4-3.6ghz, but 3000+, not 2500+. 2500+ was only at 3.2ghz :)) used something called LN2 cooling which I dont know what it is...

It makes you wonder why people would spend so much money on a 3.2 or a 3200+

even if you didnt overclock quite that much...it would still be damn fast.

here is my comment on your system. You spent like 800 extra on it, you should have gotten it/or the parts from some were else.

DAMN! Vapochill?

When listing prices, please say what form they are in.

I'd advise against the CDRW/DVD Combo drive simply because if you lose one you lose them both.

yea, get 2 seperate drives. Lite On makes REALLY good disc drives. You can get a Lite On 52x32x52x cdrw drive for under $50. You can also get a Lite On DVDrom drive for under $50, and it plays all cd formates. They have them both on www.newegg.com

Never thought of that. I had a lite-on DVD/CD drive combo, but im gonna change it to 2 drives now.

Crabcakes, that isnt a good signature. Please removie it.

No its not. Crabcakes, please remove it.

He did. I know you play CS, and i also know your a good guy. But seriously, when you play in a pub, there is h4x0rz and immature kids.

i also frequently come across biggots. Thats what pisses me off the most about cs.

Whatever you do, don't get that hard drive! Everything else is fine, but that hard drive sucks ass. You'd be much better off with a 120GB SATA diamond max 9 plus with 8MB cache, it will kill the diamond max 8 in performance, and it is like 2.5x cheaper per GB (got mine for $127).

those are canadian $$$ ......sounds about right to me.....

HL2 isnt really the problem...its these hl2 forums. Kinda sounds like your bashing hl2!!

Im not talking about the comment towards CS players, im talking about the one towards us.

how much does that translate into american money than?
