MY CS:S Preload STOPS at 95%! WHY!!!?

Ive tried preloading 3 times, i reinstalled Steam, ive logged in and out many, many times, ive reset the computer, but it WONT go past 95%

If I CONTINUOUSLY hit Continue > Pause over and over, it continues for about 10 seconds at ~240kb/s (this is kiloBITS, remember?) and then drops back to 0. Its been like this since the preload started..

PLEASE! HELP!

Also, check to see how much hard drive space you have free where source is pre-loading..............

No guys, ive left it on overnight TWICE now... It doesnt even go up .1%. I have 10 Gigs left on my drive, so that isnt the problem.

Remember, ive been trying for the third day now.

Yeah, the rapidly continue > pause could mess it up.. Just let it run un-interupted.

Steam must hate you. sure steam is installed on your 10gb free partition or drive and not on another drive/partition thats out of space? check? go in program files and look for the steam folder to be certain.

My vast sea of experience suggests that it should. If not, don't panic. Worst case scenario: Reformat your HDD(s) and re-install Windows XP. :O

Try posting at the www.steampowered.com forums..hopefully you can get some better advice there..maybe someone from valve.

yes, its installed on "D:\Steam", and D:\ has 10gigs left.

Yeah, post at Steampowered.com or e-mail someone at Valve about it. I haven't seen anyone else with this problem, so it's probably some small thing messed up on your computer.

Defrag your hard drive and remove any unnecessary programs... use disk cleanup to free up as much extra space as you can; also close all programs while it preloads. Perhaps run a PCPitstop.com diagnostics test, to make sure all is well on your machine.

Not sure if this will help but; Open "My games" and right click "Counter-Strike: Source", goto properties, then under automatic updates, select "Always keep this game up to date". Hope this works mate.

It could be the content server you are on.
Quit from steam, go into your /Steam folder and delete the file ClientRegistry.blob and then restart Steam again.

You may need to do this a couple of times before it picks up a different server.

It may even be another problem and achieve nothing, but, hell, its worth a shot.

Maybe a firewall if you have one? Try disabling the windows XP one as well to see if that helps? Try downloading Ricochet or codename gordon, do they download without interruption? Just some things to try. Hope you get it working soon! Only 2 hours to go!

mint, when i uninstalled steam, it re-downloaded CZ perfectly. Source is the only thing giving me problems

try exiting all backround programs under ur user name except for steam and explorer!
