I know I've made alot of threads, sorry for that by the way. This should be my final creation for a bit...maybe.

My problem is...Is it worth it to stick with my problematic vehicle?

For those who don't know, I bought a broke ass 1988 Mazda RX-7 from a guy for $900. It's got A LOT of problems. It takes alot of money and time to get those things working again, because there's FEW people who work on Rotories around here...even fewer that know what they are doing. There's history, now the fun.

I'm at a standstill. I'm going from, "I'm going to get a new car." to, "I can fix this up..it will help me become more rounded."

Now a little story. I am in a rut in my life. I'm just about 21 years old, still working at a fast food joint for $7.25 an hour. There is room for advancement here, but I don't think I want to, since the boss of my manager doesn't like me, so he'll try to cut me down every inch of the way. I want to do something with my life, don't have any idea what. I'm NO good at cars at all, I couldn't tell you what a, "Block" is if my life depended on it...*is it where the engine sits?* I havn't gone to college yet, I would like to if I could figure out what I want to do. If I went through with this, maybe I would get the motivation to hit College finally.

Now...I have a chance. There is a car on Ebay for pretty cheap *under $500 still, 20 hours left* and he says the engine has 1 rotor with good compression, while the other is bad. That's all I've gotten from him so far, and I'd like to buy that car for parts..if the tranny is in good shape, use that in my car since mines about to die. That's a 14 hour drive to the place to pick up the car though. That's alot of money to put into this idea if I'm not going to follow through with it.

Sometimes I feel like if I do go through with it, I will hopefully find out more about myself, and BEGIN to figure out what I want to do in my life..the other part says it's a waste of time for me, since I'm a failure *emo emo emo* and I just need to stick with what I do best, video games..ugh.

To top it off, I have a new problem that arose with my car. When I'm accelerating, I hear this awesome rattling sound from under my car...doesn't sound like it's comming from the engine. So I assume that's my Tranny saying, "Haha, you're going to be stranded soon!" I don't have any other form of transportation.

If I decide to work on my car, I have a friend of a friend who worked on his Turbo 2 white RX-7 Second Gen for a awhile, and it looks AWESOME and it's great. I could use his and his fathers auto shop to work on my car probably...so I have some help, and it will get done..just take some work. I'm bad at getting motivated, that's my main problem in life..I'm lazy.

Ok well, to end this entire STORY off, I was just throwing out my idea..and then sending in my problem while I am at it...just for kicks.

Thanks.

New Yellowcard album released a couple of days ago :D ...

i guess you can take it to the shop and see how much fixing it up would cost, if its more than what youre willing to spend on it, look for a new car. check the Autotrader, internet, etc. for the car of your price range. my bro got a 96 firebird for only $4500 in great condition, so you have a chance. :)

I'd take a Mazda MX-5 though :|

Too bad I don't know anything about cars, I'd love to help you D:

One of the biggest thing I want to fix this car us is because it's the first car I've actually found "sexy". I mean previously, I'd be like, "Oh wow, a car, yeah, woopdiedoo..." and not care. This one, I have fun driving and just think it's an awesome all around car.

You sure it's not the exhaust that's loose?

I was thinking that could also be the case. It's been raining, so there is no way for me to really get under the car to check as of now. I'm hoping that's the case..if so..then easier fix :(

Buy an old ass 87 or 88 civic hatch or crx, and you will be fine, they aren't expensive either. And most get 40mpg with good working engines.

Buy a used golf and you can use it for years before it breaks down, by then you can afford a proper car

Sheesh, you paid $900 for a 17 year old car?
/me paid $200 for a 1990 Ford Pickup
Meh, anyway. Get rid of the car. You could pour money into that thing from here to eternity. Better to spend the extra cash up front.

wtf is a golf?

imo, the only real motive i would go on a 14 hour drive for a car is to think about the stuff you said (college, life, and stuff) besides getting the car.

Well, I decided something about this car. I'm going to save up and maybe buy a 3rd gen...Maybe start getting my credit on the line paying for it monthly. Problem is, gotta find a place I can do that with D:

My tags expire in July..so I've got 6 months...*whew*..here's to hoping my car lasts so long.

And it's $900 because it's an RX-7. RX-7 > Ford Pickup...

Golfs are hideous btw.

Sigh, DO NOT, I REPEAT, do NOT get an FD. Insurance will bust your ass if you get an FD, its not exactly a normal car you see everyday.

Like I said get an old civic hatch or crx and just drive it till you can afford something better then upgrade and keep it as a beater.

I've got the poor mans insurance right now, and it's 75 bucks. Plus it's going to be a LONG while before I can afford any FD. I'm up to $1000 D:

Guesstimation on the insurance price? I've had 1 speeding ticket, though it didn't raise my current insurance up at all..still paying that $75.

I would PREFER to find a nice TII 7 that looks nice for a few grand and buy that..hopefully one with the engine built up in under 50k miles.

Do what I said seriously, have a beater just incase your newer car you purchase breaks down, then you know you will have some way of getting to places.
