i just got me a brand spanking new linksys router after an electrical storm killed my last one :dozey:

and i'm happily downloading stuff when all of a sudden.... it stops for no apparent reason... and i wanna know how to fix this! i tried calling linksys to talk to a human and the human just read me the instruction manual! please help me!

BTW, i know the router is the culprit of my downloads breaking because when i have my computer directly connected to my cable modem... they don't break :borg:

It's the power of the cable / DSL gnomes... sorry. There's no hope for you now :(

are there any ports that need to be opened or forwarded or sumthing? or is it a hardware issue?

sounds like it could be faulty and/or improperly configured, and in my experience hardly anyone seems to be able to configure routers correctly. I personally hate the things because of this, they do seem to cause more problems for users than they prevent :(

Yeah, I had the same problem today while downloading DX2:IW Demo, I was half way done too.

edit: I have a Motorola SB5100 CAble Modem and a Microsoft MN-100 router.

i updated the firmware and now it works!!!! :D :D :D

i would say thanks for helping me... but you guys didn't help me... :p

glad that it works.....networking stuff is a bitch......its as much of a pain in the ass as programming.....

yep, thats a standard issue u got, from linksys routers and especially with modem too.
- next, ull find u need to open extra ports for stuff..

Like making game servers, which i still have no clue how to make them visible to public... *sigh* i hate networking, i only know the basics plus a bit more.

I also decided to get rid of my crappy 54G card on my P4 and just run a cat6. Im sick of being disconnected and getting crappy speeds. Of course i cant get the cat6 working...

Networking was such a pain when I got my router and went to play online through tunneling. Opening ports, making static IP's(?). I barely remember any of it. all I know is I went from a router to a hub to a switch then back to a router and found out that I barely had to do anything in the first place. I learned some stuff though.
