not alot to do with hl2 , but this includes a mp7 i made. Ive found a cool and easy way of making models on Maya (n00b method), what you do is Take a black and white picture of anything, its best if its flat and then from there I used a program called Fontographer , what it does is trace the edges of the picture and makes a font out of it. From there i used maya and entered the text key , then i duplicated the picture and used the loft and beavel tool. :)

still not finished but take a look so far.

1) wrong forum. if you want better crits, better off placing it in the modeling forum. they know what they are talking about and can help ya out.

2) nice try. for a first model, the whole 'tracing thing' is okay, but try to shy away from this ASAP as it is a very bad way of modeling, and you want to develop good habits before bad ones.

3) thanks for the name of that program, sounds pretty cool. could i have a link to dl it?

good job with the mp7, and good luck

check pm's , and thanks. Mods please move this to modeling. (no idea it had one)

That is a terrible, terrible, awful technique. Not only does it create an extravagant amount of wasted polygons, it will take more work to shape that into what the weapon looks like in the other dimension than it would to just model it by hand. If you are serious about learning how to model, never, ever, ever do this again.

Note that I'm not trying to make you feel bad about the model, I just want to point out that you will never get anywhere modeling like that. Take the time and learn to do it correctly, and stay away from the mindset of trying to do it quickly and easily.

Ohh come on i think its a pretty novel way of moddeling :) with the ingenuity it took to come up with that im sure when he actually tries to create a proper model he will do well.

pff ffs its his first model MAN ! i never new a beginner had to be a PROFFESIONAL MODELAR

I wasn't bashing him or the model, I was bashing the technique he used. If he is serious about modeling he needs to do it correctly.

there is no correct way to model, it is all about preferance, you can do anything anyway, its all about preferance...

the model is very basic and flat, and also a side note, try to shirk your images and compress them into Jpegs please, as it took a while to load on my computer and i'm using broadband :x

Looks decent for a fisrt model, but get a better host :x yahoo sucks. And it's slow.

No, but there are good habits and bad habits. Bad techniques, such as this, will always result in poorly contructed meshes.

hey thanks for looking. Like i said I wont be using this method , i thought it would be cool to see if it would actually work , kind of like a test. no offense taken guys :) my first model doesnt count hehe. Id rather build my model from polys, ive started on a low poly handgun already but im still learning. But someone who is skilled can use this to his advantage. also sorry about the speeds, ill be getting a host real soon.

its oke.. experimenting is good, its the only way you learn and develop skill.

I prefer to spell preference correctly! (BURNED!)

The model looks.....flat? Look at some tutorials and try modelling in a different way.

I'm with spin on this one. That is not a proper technique if you don't want to spend a month on cleaning. I would suggest good old box modeling with this one.

he already said that it wont become his desired way of modeling.
btw if ur a begginer u should start with max. maya is a bit complex.
good luck
