I'm so happy right now that I had to make this thread! :E For 4 years I have had a small bag that was packed with tools. It survived through my last 2 years in High School and through my 2 years of college. I couldn't put many tools in it, I had to rummage through it to find tools as well. I also have to depend on some friends at work to use their tools which I hate to do. I also have to bring the bag home with me every day including my welding jacket, welding helmet, and coffee cup. It's much similar to this:

So after months at my new job, it was very apparent that I needed to move to a toolbox. I didn't get one straight away though because who knows if the job worked out. So after some time telling myself "I'll get it sooner or later" then the welding inspector saying "you getting that toolbox yet?", I got it. My dad insisted on just a main toolbox portion, making it huge and Craftsman. He is a Auto Mechanic and thinks that welders don't use many tools but is incredibly wrong. He said to use Snap-On, but Kobalt is much cheaper, has more features, and is superior in quality than Craftsman.

I got the full chest with top: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=268967-55738-LW27SS07-BT06&lpage=none

I had no sales tax in NH, I had a gift card promo in the mail for $50, and they took off $19 for the top box because of a sale. It was $568 compared to some $600 toolboxes from Craftsman. Gonna put it up during lunch tomorrow. This is like a right of passage for me.

how often do things break around you? :)

Yeah, I got one about a year ago. I had been wanting one for many years.

It was on sale half ****ing price and I didn't hesitate.

I couldn't be happier. I went from having an entire garage full of tools everywhere to a nice set of utility shelves and a toolbox like yours. Everything has a place. :D

Tools lolol genitalia!

Hool the tool rofl rofl!

you have like a loose screw on your head

Looks pretty swish, like a chrome dispenser as AJ kind of said. My main confusion is that a tool bag you can throw in a car or over your shoulder when en route to 'weld' something. With this big unit, do you wheel it onto the train / lay it in the back of your car. Do you have to push it around like a trolley then there is a welding crisis and must ATTEND A WELDING SITE.

I honestly do not know.

Well not all welding jobs are like that. My company welds heat exchangers and what they call a "static mixer". It's inside a building and all the big boys have one there. It's like upgrading from a bike as a kid to a car or something.

Speaking of toolboxes being loaded onto a vehicle... one of my cousin was an electrician before recently joining the navy as a medic with hopes of becoming a SEAL, he had a really nice toolbox mounted on his truck with a good lock and everything, and lots of expensive tools inside he'd use while working.

And then it was stolen. Man that must have really sucked.

My dad was recently telling me about his first Mechanic job. He said that the guy told him to bring his tools with him into work, so he grabbed a bag, and all the tools in his house (hammers, screwdrivers etc) thinking thats what he needed to work on cars. He was all proud of himself when he first went in because he had so many tools, but then he saw all the real mechanics with huge toolboxes and all sorts of air tools and power tools, and they made jokes about his little bag of carpentry tools. Then he bought real tools and apparently kicked their asses, and now he is one of the most respected mechanics in the city.

From what my dad tells me, Snap On is expensive because they're really high quality. Them, and I think Matco maybe?

But you should think about getting Craftsman tools anyways. They have a Craftsman Pro line which is actually pretty good quality, plus it still has the lifetime replacement warrenty, you just go into the store and they give you a new one. I'm not sure how much welding equipment is covered by that though, but their normal tools are worth the purchase.

I'm probably going with Craftsman or Mac Tools. My stuff won't be beat upon as much as a mechanic or if you beat on it then your just a tard. Snap-On is great quality because how they forge it, the steel used, and they showed it on some episode of American Chopper. Ask any pro mechanic and they will say Snap-On.

Yeah, thats what it seems like. Though I'm sure everyone who starts off gets the cheap stuff at first, until they're well established enough and saved enough money to pony up for the good stuff.

I've got some snap-on, craftsman, and various other brands.

Snap on is the only one I can count on every time.

Craftsman is excellent, but really not that much better than some of the common brands. But if something happens to it, you just bring it in for a free replacement. And I've done it before.

Had a small 'robo grip' tool that sat out in the rain for a month and they gave me a brand set of two of them because that was the way it was packaged.

Getting excited about a toolbox is super cute.

But super weird.

My tools are literally laying around in a heap in my garage.

Well, not anymore, but for the longest time, there was quite literally a little pile of wrenches, sockets, ratches, screwdrivers, allen keys, etc etc etc, laying in the entrance to the garage.

Worked for me :/ I'd just roll my bike up to the pile, and dig around till I found what I needed, fix what was broked, and toss the shit back into the pile. The only problem was that when the wind picked up, some of the sockets would roll across the garage and hide themselves in little random places.

I have no space for toolchest.

I only have one tool.

I lost the other one.

Goddamn rich kids.
I had to build my own toolbox.
