my FPS!??!

i have a similar problem, only its with HL1 games. (I dont have CS:S). My HD got fried so i had to replace it and reinstall windows xp. My other HD, which was fine, had steam on it. Before the "incident" i got about 120 fps contant. Now i get like 35 max and under 10 in fights. This is on any resolution in D3D. In opernGL i get a contant 5 fps (about). I dont know what it is. My ping is a pretty contant 30-50. My connection is wireless B, though.

Radeon 9700 PRO w/ 4.10, CCC, and AI
Soundblaster Live! 5.1
512 RAM
Steam HD: Western Digital 80Gb
Windows HD: Desktar 160 Gb
DirectX 9.0c
Windows XP SP1 (had SP2 but it pissed me off so i uninstalled it)

Any help?

yeah , you do hazen, my mobo only goes to 2.0 too...
im assuming you can transfer most of your parts that you have over to it though, if you built a new comp yourself

dont use oficial 4.10
use the beta based on 4.11
give me atleast 30 to 40 fps more

also, htis is only in steam in D3 for example i get 45 fps on medium

oke give me 1 momment i search them for you
btw i get 127 fps avarage in vid stress test
90 with 4.10 oficials
only need 1 upgrade still and thats water cooling
and maybe a p4 3,0 ghz + ht presscot

yup it got a mem fix for 256 mb cards
gives me much more fps also
4.10 i get 90 in stress test
and 127 in 4.11

its actualy based on 4.11

does it matter that my 9700 PRO only has 128? Also, last time my comp[carshed it said it was from memory so im gonna run this windows memory diagnostic thing see what it tells me

just give it a try
if it gives more fps then why not use it

it makes no difference, in steam games at least
btw the windows memory diagnositc thing reported 16 errors, but gives no way to fix them and i not THAT good with computers to start fidgeting with my RAM. Should i get a new stick or would there be a program that might fix it up? I'm still tying to figure out why i dropped from 120 fps to 20. No luck so far.
