My girlfriend is a photographer and before she started using professional equipment, she took this with her small Samsung point-and-shoot:

I think it's pretty damn good for a cheap camera. That photo is currently running in a contest for $1000, so if you want to help her out with two simple clicks, go here.

She's been moving onto other forms of photography such as fashion and glamour. This was taken at my college's annual drag show:

Here's a man with a guitar:

And here's a nice swan:

I just wanted to show off some of her work, because I'm very proud of her. And she hasn't taken any college level photography classes yet!

You can check out more of her work here.

What? A simple picture of a tree in a contest for 1000$? I don't see the special and the awesome.

Other than that she's got a few nice photos in her gallery.

Also, this belongs in the Art section.

If a painting made by an elephant can sell for millions of pounds (literally, not making that up), im sure the simplist of photos will win.

Sometimes the simplist ARE the best.

Elephants are awesome though.

This is a lame attempt at telling everyone you have an ugly girlfriend, Captain.

The tree picture is OK, but not a 1k buck winnar.

you beat me to it captain ;)

everyone else try not to look at the photo too long, your eyes might burn out of your head from the horribleness that is my face

I was totally expecting another "girlfriend posed with my car" thread.

Nice tree picture :)

It doesn't take as long as you'd think for my stomach to involuntarily induce vomiting when I look at your face.

trollpesh is lolpesh.

Nice vibrant tree photograph.

And you're an attractive woman.

Wrong. Your eyeballs are gigantic. You look like the Corpse Bride

Enjoy having the vision of an eagle.

Please lock this thread. Obviously the mature members of Hl2.net can't handle this conversation.

I only see one person acting immature.

And I see another person over reacting.

The first pic is nice, reminds me of Oblivion actually.

edit - and pesmerga is just being pesmerga

It's just Pesh trollllling. Really nice photos, I hope she wins.

If think you're going to take a picture of something as mundane as a tree, then something about it needs to be badass. I know people will disagree but that picture seems rather, average, and the tree, the sky, the colors...they're all 'as expected'. It just seems like any one of us could walk out to our backyards, look up, and see that photo, and to me, just capturing what everybody can see, isn't worth $1,000.

badass tree:

different pictures mean different thing to different people. some people might not like 'badass' trees for example

Personally I thought they were some very good photos. You also have an attractive 'girlfriend'. I cannot confirm the plausibility of a 'girlfriend', however.

:p

Alright, I've lightened up kiddos. Wasn't feeling well earlier...

Thanks for the comments y'all.

And here's another cool picture she took:

That's more deserving of a thousand dollars.

from the deviantart page: "if I'm not asking for advice don't give it"

your gf is not gonna make it in photography, sorry

Oh shush Peshie

Nice pics

If the one taking the photo likes the picture, that's success enough.

lol okay... ;) this is a case of selective quoting, but that's alright. When I said that I was referring to someone who refused to address a specific question I was asking (yes, asking for advice..).

I am more than welcome to constructive critique if anyone cares to give it! Unfortunately what tends to happen is people don't always know the difference between constructive critique and flaming. But to those who do know the difference, more power to you, and go for it.

And tbh, I somewhat agree. It's a tree. Big deal. However it's prettier, more relevant, and better executed than many of the other entries in the contest. So in context it is worth $1000

and yeah, captain m4d is just making me up :p what a crazy guy

You clearly never met "Princess Jen".

You've clearly not been around on the internet for too long, either.

can't tell if you're replying to me or not... doh, not used to this forum

who is princess jen??

and you're right, I spend the majority of my time in the kitchen cooking, this is the first I've ever seen a computer actually :p

who is princess jen??

That's what they all say!

In all seriousness, Princess Jen was a quote unquote girl that came to this forum a while ago and asked for money or gifts or something after gaining everyone's sympathy and love because she was a girl.

Something like that, and so it's a recurring joke here at hl2.net to bring that up when a girl shows up on the forum.

very well, my mistake then! :p It was in big bold letters, that's your fault!

I think you have talent, it just needs some cultivation. Don't be afraid to explore and develop. You have a lot of good angles and ideas, but I think you can improve on the overall composition and post-color management.

Tree pic is fine, but I think unnamed road is your best pic.

http://www.photographymob.org/forums/index.php has some really good constructive sections and inspiration, try checking it out

lmao for real? that's really silly.

but how can you be SURE I'm a girl? I could be just lying and secretly be some old fat creeper.
although chances are I'm a girl.

you're tellin me, I wish I had more time to devote to photography to do that development. As it is I just deal with doing it a bit more slowly, but I like to think I've improved from my very first photos. Though you can tell me - that tree photo was one from last year and unnamed road is much more recent.

Maybe you're an old fat creeperess? ;)

Yeah I love that road photo, it's very thoughtful and you used a perfect model. You've definitely improved! As long as you have fun, that's what's important, then improvement comes naturally. Thanks for the kind words by the way.

maybe in 60 years

I like the road photo too. Even though it's really cliche, well, things become cliche because they work.

you're very welcome, any time!

I lol'd

This makes me want to start taking pictures more. I bought a nice camera and went out shooting a couple times but then I got bored. Maybe its because i'm not an attractive model. Or maybe I just live in Louisiana and there is nothing to photograph except for lame buildings and wooded areas.
