My HL2 acquisition story... muahaha

This was about 2 weeks ago, when HL2 was still $55. My brother and I decided we would split the cost and take turns playing it, so one saturday we went to Best Buy and bought it. I only had $10 on me at the time, so we agreed that he would be the first one to play it. When we got home, though, he turned into the possessive passive agressive dork that he has always been. He finished installing it and when I asked for the CDs, he replied, "not until you pay me completely." So I went to my dad and reminded him that I did well on the last AP Chem test, so he gave me $15 (i dont get an allowance and cant get a job). I went to give the money back to my brother, but he just whipped out his wallet and gave me my $10 back. I couldn't believe it. I got so mad that after he went to sleep, I got on his steam account on my computer , waited the endless hours it took to download HL2, and I now keep it on offline mode with a no-cd patch (WE OWN THE GAME) so he doesn't get suspicious. To top off my revenge, the next day, the price went down to $40, so i snatched the receipt and took it back to best buy and got the $15 difference. It's a good thing he's stupid.

So what's YOUR story? (if you have one)

Your brother is an asshole. You should get back at him, instead of just stopping him from annoying you. Delete his computer or something.

The 16th, I went to school. It was the longest morning of my life. On lunch time I ran with my friend to the Future Shop. We ran inside, pushed the grandmother who was standing right in front of the two last Collector's Edition boxes and took them. We walked calmly and proudly to the cashier. We put the boxes on the table, took out our money and what a surprise! She immediately said to us that we had to show a identity card to prove that we are 18 years (and we weren't). We started panicking, we dropped the boxes and walked outside the Future Shop. We had to find a solution! So we asked a guy who looked like an 18 years old to buy our copies. End of story.

I bought the game nice and legal like through Steam. No "shared" accounts or CD-crack tom foolery for me.

And if you really want to get back at your brother, try doing something through his account that will get it banned.

Ok, so I went to Software etc on one fine afternoon. Are you guys ready for this next part; it's a shocker. I bought the game and, wait till you hear this, brought it home and installed it. I know, it's a thrilling anecdote but you asked for it. ;)

Oh my god! Did you put the cds in your driver?!

My mom bought it for me on her credit card on the 13th of November from Steam. I said "Thanks, mom!". CS:S was working pretty much instantly, so I played that for a while. On November 16th at 12:01 AM Pacific Time, I loaded the game up and played through the Canals level. I wrote a lengthy thank you letter to Gabe and everyone at Valve, then I went to bed. Then I day-dreamed about playing it all day at school.

I went to 2 other stores before finally going into Circuit City and finding HL2. There was only one Gordon cover out and I picked that one.

However, Steam was slow so I had to wait until next morning to play.

:D

i bought it the night of the 17th (money issues until that day) through steam (silver version) and downloaded and installed without a hitch. how...pedestrian.

Bought it on like November 1 ((Silver))
Then waited and play Counter-strike source.
November 16: Disease simulation...basicly I got really "sick" at 9 am i started playing hl2...Stopped at 11pm. lol

An old man at target wouldn't believe I was 18 and I had no ID (rode the bus that day, no Drivers license) , and he followed me to the next register and told them not to sell it to me.....so I found a bunch of 75 year old women shopping together, who said they would by it for me because I was so handsome :), I ended up taking them to lunch and finding the one oldest female gamers I ever met....fancy that!

well you did ask, i finished my exams :)D) like start of november or just after that, then i asked mum (cause i finished my exams :D) to buy it for me, but she dicided to make me do more to get it. So that afternoon i sat on my arse. Now the next day i went to school (only had 4 days left) then i came home after going for a swim. That happened till thursday and there was a party on so i went at 11pm till the morning then i walked home then ate and went to school (final day) then i went for swim (tired -_-), after that gruelling week i decided to ask mum again, Alas she did not give the responce i hoped for....so i decided to look for a job :) got halfway to supermarket then thought "f*ck it" and went into town with friends.

Did you like my story ? :D

heh...when i worked at Target, I found it incredible that the register didn't ask for a birthday for r-rated movies, obscene CDs, etc. and asked for ID and a birthday for M rated games.

i let some 8-year old kid buy GTA:VC just on the principle of it.

I bought steam a month before release. Preloaded, and started playing at 3:30am local time.

I bought [upgraded my ATI voucher to 'silver' that is] it two or three days before release on Steam (having alredy pre-loaded it all). I switch my PC on at 8AM GMT, got the 'play half life 2 now' message, clicked OK and sat back and waited for it to unlock. I was listening to the G-Mans opening speech by 8.20AM.

We were pretty lucky in the UK, most people seem to have got it unlocked without any real problems in those first few hours.
